Fun, beautiful course
Beautiful course. Not difficult or long. Must be able to hit the ball in play on the back 9. Would play again in a minute.
It’s pretty but a quirky layout
Some really goofy holes. Greens were surprisingly good for this time of year
Gatlinburg is a mountain course
We have played a few mountain courses around the Smokies. Gatlinburg would fall in the upper middle. The front 9 was very playable and understandable, the back 9 seemed to need more clearing or land to make it playable. They have a great shark gps system to “try” to help you determine a target, but some of the targets are crazy small, not to mention hidden. I prefer to play at Sequoa National in Cherokee, which is a much better layout for most of the 18 holes. The views however at Gatlinburg were spectacular! I have posted a couple on Twitter, inthesandgolf. Enjoy the best game ever invented, wherever you are!
Fix the easy things
I have played this course several times. The front 9 is okay but the back 9 (especially #12) makes it worth the trip. Now, if you could work on two things. (1) The staff in the Pro Shop are unfriendly. I have had the same comment every time I played. They act like they are doing you a favor by letting you play. My wife thought she made tee times to play at 8:20 it was actually 9:20 and the man in the pro shop made you feel like an idiot for not having the times right. He was very unfriendly and very short with us. The starter was actually pretty nice. Friendly and got us out early, paring us with a single. (2) There is virtually no place to warm up except for three practice nets that are in such bad shape that I hit two Pro V1 Balls through the nets and they disappeared down the hill behind the nets never to be found again. The netting is rotted and if you hit a ball in the righ spot, it breaks the netting and your ball is gone, down the hill behind the nets never to be seen again. I lost more balls in the practice nets than on the course.
Really? I'm getting that this is a hilly course and not a lot of flat spot for a practice range, but the nets are rotted and if you like to warm up before you play, you are for the most part, out of luck. The chipping green is fine but don't chip and roll it off the green or the ball dissappears out of site and you don't get it back.
The course greens are showing a lot of wear from players. The front 9 is like any municipal course, back and forth. The back 9 winds through the hills and is really fun.
If the Club would spend some time upgrading the warm up and practice areas making them actually usable and remind the folks in the pro shop that "customers" pay their salaries, you'd go a long way to making this a better facility.
Sieverville Golf Club is 10 minutes away, has two 18 hole couses and we played it for the first time this trip. Most likely be playing there instead of here next trip.
Very challenging course
Key to this course is playing it for second, third, fourth etc time due to unseen or depth perception miscalculated landing areas. For the bogey golfer the deep bermuda rough leads to several lost balls but regardless the course offers a great experience that I look forward to on my next trip to Gatlinburg.
Great Time
I was a single and got paired up with 3 other singles. We had a fantastic time and I couldn't have picked 3 better guys to golf with. I would highly recommend the course to anyone who is staying in the area and has time to play. It was one of the enjoyable rounds of golf I have played in a long time.
Beautiful, fun, yet challenging course!
Spectacular views
Unique layout with 4 par 5s in first 10 holes provides a unique twist. Amazing views and plenty of challenges for shot making. Greens a little rough in spots is only area to improve a great round of golf.
Vacation golf
The views from all over this course were breath taking. When playing golf on vacation you don't want a very challenging course, you want to have fun and score. This course allows that. The only issue I had was, so many of the greens were "blind" in my chip shot.
Course was fun.
Overall had a good time, staff was friendly, no driving range but has warm up nets and a chipping green and putting green, course was in average condition, greens were nice, course layout is neat with the elevation changes and the smokey mountains all around , a good experience I would return.
Gatlinburg Golf
We were greeted by the staff immediately. They verified our online reservation quickly. The starter greeted us and explained the course rules. We started our play exactly on time. After the first hole, we had to wait for every shot. The tee times were all booked with mostly foursomes, but since the pace of play was so far behind schedule, it was disappointing to not see a course Marshall present to move things along. The greens were very fast, but the surfaces were.marred by some bare areas. Ball marks were repaired for the most part. It was a very fun course to play with the only criticisms being the bare areas on the greens and the slow pace of play (5:05 for 18 holes)
