Great layout with tricky greens
Had a great round yesterday as it was my first time at Rustic. The course is extremely fun, very long with insane greens. The only bummer is due to the lack of trees finding shade is impossible. And it took 5 hrs to play 18. Still worth coming back..

Still one of the Best, but greens super slow right now
Rustic is still one of the best public courses in SoCal that you can afford to play. It's not as reasonable in price as it used to be, but its not exorbitant.
Right now, the greens are incredibly slow. I've never seen it like this, and I've been playing there since it opened. Supposedly they are letting them grow in after punching them earlier in spring, but its kinda shocking compared to how they usually are. The greens are a major component of what makes Rustic unique, so if you're making a special trip there to play, you might want to call and ask if they are mowing back to normal levels yet. I would postpone playing there again until then. A positive is the fairways are also being watered more than other times of year and they are lush (relative to fall and winter).
The course was designed to play in coastal on shore breezes (up canyon), which is exactly opposite wind direction of Santa Anas (down canyon). So again if you're making a special trip, best to go on a non-Santa Ana day. Spring is best. In the Fall winds can blow to the point of absurdity (50 mph and such).

Really good tract, but ….
This would be an excellent review if the greens weren’t so incredibly slow. I’ve played here many times, but they have recently allowed what used to be reasonably fast greens slow down.

Great design, poa anna greens!
A great layout recently named #47 in Golf Digest’s 100 best you can play in the US list, the look/feel of Rustic is unique compared to most of what you see in California. A quasi-links in a parkland setting.
Tees and fairways were solid. Bunkers which are mostly “waste areas” are punitive.
Today, the poa anna greens were quite fuzzy. Guessing maybe an 8 on the stimp meter. When poa gets fuzzy, the putting gets challenging. Bumpy and grainy, all Four in our group left every putt short for the first 12-13 holes.
Otherwise, no complaints and mostly praise for a very well run golf operation

Great course, very slow greens.
Love this course layout, play here all the time. The pace of play in the afternoon on a weekday is atrocious, 5 hour round. I avoid it on the weekends, but can imagine it’s even worse then. Greens are running super slow for rustic… (everyone’s wondering what the deal is).. makes the course a bit to easy compared to the rating. Hopefully they cut the greens soon and hire a marshal/starter to keep pace of play up.

Greens were too slow for an excellent review.
Seems like an odd time of year for aeration.
But still a nice course but for 62 bucks I want fast greens!! Or notification for the punched greens.

The pictures are not what you’re playing. Over booked, dry fairways, slow greens. Angeles national is way better public course
