Rustic Canyon Golf Course

As always a great time playing one of the finest courses in so cal. Maybe I’m a little biased but this course fits my game very well. Course is well maintained and the layout is great.

True Links, and always a great experience.Staff was friendly as usual and the course was in great shape.

Skeptical to write this bc I selfishly don’t want to drive much more play to the course. It’s far and away the best public course near LA. Hanse did an awesome job in the design. Large greens with great contour and expansive, tight aprons surrounding the greens. A lot of high handicaps struggle here with the short game shots and I see some criticism of the course bc of it. I love how thoughtful and committed you need to be to execute good shots.

I’ve been wanting to play this for a while and finally managed to sneak out for a twilight round during the week. I played with someone familiar with the course and that definitely helps. Not that it’s a blind shot kind of course, it’s a links course and greens can be deceptive. club selection is vital. The course was in great shape considering how late in the season it is and how dry it’s been. Greens were challenging but fun. I can’t say enough how much fun this course is and how great the layout is. It’s the best I’ve payed in Los Angeles.

For how busy the course was today, the pace of play was excellent! I think we played in 4:15

Very enjoyable course, but the greens are large and undulating. You will almost certainly face some very long, very winding putts.

Have been fortunate to have played many courses both private and public and Rustic Canyon is up there with the best of them!

Conditions were windy and wonderful. True links day!!! One of the few places you can golf and not stare at cookie cutter houses. Love it!

Great condition, link style greens, back nine is more challenging.

Rustic Canyon is a good value and challenges your short game strategy with the large closely mown areas around most greens. Course knowledge will greatly help your scoring as many holes have "no go" sections to avoid. Putting on the large rolling greens requires good green reading skills.

This is a walkers course as there are many tee boxes that are not close to the cart path. Therefore yardage determination and club selection likely require some extra trips to the cart.

The weather was perfect around low 80s, and the greens were speedy.

The fairways were good, and the greens were faster than I thought it would be.

I enjoyed my round and finished in just over 4 hours.

Play all the time and have walked off the course the last 4 times. Pace of play is so ridiculously slow. Legitimate 7 hour round. Utterly ridiculous

Best Value in So Cal! Amazing layout. Desert Links Style that will test all parts of your game. The whole coarse slopes toward the entrance. Remember this on the greens and get your birdies in early as 14-18 are tough holes. One of my favorites!!!

Interesting layout, fast play, great condition, friendly service, the list goes on... Rustic Canyon encompasses literally everything you could possibly seek in a golf course. The fairways are very wide with few trees ,if any, in sight. However there is usually trouble on both sides of the fairway in the form of native areas. Pot bunkers sitting in the middle of a few fairways also add a challenge. The green complexes are very difficult with lots of tiers and angulations and are usually quite fast. You really have to think about how to play the breaks of the greens on approach shots: whether using slopes as backboards, or hitting to spots where you will have a relatively straight putt. These aspects give Rustic Canyon a bit of a links feel. While the course layout speaks for it self, perhaps the most appealing aspect of Rustic Canyon is its incredibly serene setting. There is hardly a house in sight, and while there you really feel like you are immersed in the natural landscape, miles away from any city or town. It is hard to get this feeling at any other courses around L.A, which is one of the many things that makes Rustic Canyon so special. If you play in the afternoon, it is common to spot all sorts of wildlife such as rabbits, road runners, coyotes, raptors, and even the occasional snake. All in all, probably the best way to spend $30 dollars.
