Rustic Canyon Golf Course

This course is simply a lot of fun and very challenging. The greens are difficult, but fun, and you'll need some good green reading skills to 1 putt!!

4.5 overall rating.One of my favorite layouts. Good condition though bunkers need some work. Front 9 2 hours back 9 over 2.5 on a Monday. Very different front from back. No homes around, just a fun course. Greens are crazy, which makes it even more fun.

Wow, what a great hidden gem! Drove up in less than 2 hours from south orange county to meet my Ventura golf buddy there. What a great course with wonderful greens and beautiful views. I would defiantly play this course again!

Course was in great condition with large, fast undulating greens. Expect some 3 or even 4 putts. Fairways are very generous but are bordered with desert waste areas where you are unlikely to find your ball. Wind is common and can get pretty strong. There are a bunch of par fours that are over 400 yards. This is one of the best courses you can play and likely the most affordable. I will be back.

Took a drive out here today. A really nice track, particularly the back 9. Unfortunately a nice day out somewhat spoiled by the staffs attitude. The guy in the shop was pleasant but the lady in the restaurant couldn’t have been less interested, and the buggy guys were sullen and unfriendly. I note now that a few others have made similar comments - obviously no one has had a word yet.....

Rustic is extremely challenging, with greens that are tilted and fast that are very hard to hold with approach shots.

Played behind a US Open qualifying so teh pace was very slow.

Bring lots of golf balls and a friend who has played the course to advise were to put approach shots.

I live in Santa Monica. When ever I have enough time in my life to to drive to Rustic and play their course, I am on it. The course is gorgeous. The staff is very friendly. There is a beverage cart that I look forward to seeing after I screw up the front nine. The greens are huge. The views are amazing. I sincerely feel there is nothing not to love about this place.

This track provides everything except water hazards, but there's plenty of trouble if you're not careful. The cart GPS is not very helpful because the greens are so huge for the most part, you really need distances to the pin and other landmarks which are not offered--so bring a rangefinder. The fairways, bunkers and greens were in very good to excellent condition, but pin placements this past Sunday were treacherous. Course knowledge is a huge advantage, especially for the grain of the greens which are very difficult to judge. The one piece of advice most will tell you is that everything slopes toward the front gate of the property.

Regardless of any negative things I am about to rant on, it is still LA’s best public course. But these issues are stopping it from being elite. It is a Gil Hans course TAKE BETTER CARE OF IT!!!! OK, here we go: The service is not good. The staff seems filled with people who don’t want to be in the service industry. Bitter starters, untrained kitchen staff, and no presence of leadership. The facility has taken a beating and is need of some major upkeep. Restrooms are gross and falling apart, fairways are spotty and disease ridden, carts are junky and ripped up. Plus I can’t remember the last time I hit off of grass on their once shining practice facility. Just old mats every time. For months at a time. This place gets about 180 golfers a day so you know it’s making money, just wish they would take better are of this jewel.

I’ve been playing this course since it’s opening. Each time the course plays differently due to the large greens with many undulations. Since the whole course is slightly canted it takes experience in reading the greens. The course is fun to play and one never gets bored.

This is the best public course in the Los Angeles area. The natural canyon setting (no houses) offers a pitcturesque and unique links style experience. The course is always in good shape and the Greens are fun, challenging, and often bewildering. The Staff is friendly and the breakfast burritos are a must.

I always enjoy playing here because it is challenging without being too penalizing. The greens are pretty tricky because of the false fronts and undulations. Down canyon putts are very quick and up canyon putts are slower than you would expect. All in all a great experience.

Always enjoy playing Rustic. Wish I lived closer!

The course looked a little tattered but overall was in playable condition. The wind was howling at 25-30 mph which made conditions difficult.
