About
Whitney Oaks Golf Club in Rocklin sits just half an hour from Sacramento but the stunning landscape blanketed with thousands of live oaks feels much more secluded. In addition to the trees, massive granite outcroppings accent the course. It is both a visually stunning and formidable championship layout. The diverse topography is the focus, providing many challenges with the elevation changes and towering trees that line the narrow fairways. The rolling topography helped to determine the placement of the bunkers. Wetlands come into play throughout the golf course, also serving as home to numerous varieties of indigenous wildlife. The golf course finishes with a tough hole, a long par 5 that is flanked by wetlands on both the left and right. Whitney Oaks G.C. also has a practice facility with a 15-station driving range, a putting green, and pitching area.

Bit slow but pretty and challenging course
Really a pretty and challenging track. Conditions were pretty good. Little wet in areas. Pace of play can be challenging here during mid week.

Worst Shape Ever
I've played this course a number of times over the past 10 years and I have never seen it in this bad of shape before. Fairways were completly gone. No grass what so ever to hit off from, and to pay $53.... No thanks.

Good Tees and Greens, Terrible fairways
It's hard to image a course with excellent greens and almost no green grass in the fairway. Perhaps the fairway species is dormant, but all the lawns surrounding the course were very green. Every shot hit in the fairway was like playing from a bare lie, except the ground was covered by VERY short tan colored grass.

So Very Little Grass
The fairways are extremely tight. There’s grass, I guess, but mostly hitting of very tight lies. At one point I mentioned to my friend that we might be better of in the rough where we’d find a little grass.
I realize it’s been dry, but we may not be coming back for a while because the experience was frustrating. I’m confident the course managers will eventually fix this problem.
The greens were in very good condition.
I guess this will be publicly posted, so I should add that I normally love this course and would recommend it highly. My rating now is strictly do to fairway conditions.

There was no grass in the fairways which made it impossible to make a decent iron shot.

Conditions
Fairways were so dry that the carts were kicking up dust while driving on them.

Let the course go
Course is in the worst condition I’ve ever seen it. Pins were placed in the most Mickey Mouse clown and windmill positions possible! Please any golfer who works there teach the cup setter where he should and shouldn’t set up the holes… what a joke
