About
Whitney Oaks Golf Club in Rocklin sits just half an hour from Sacramento but the stunning landscape blanketed with thousands of live oaks feels much more secluded. In addition to the trees, massive granite outcroppings accent the course. It is both a visually stunning and formidable championship layout. The diverse topography is the focus, providing many challenges with the elevation changes and towering trees that line the narrow fairways. The rolling topography helped to determine the placement of the bunkers. Wetlands come into play throughout the golf course, also serving as home to numerous varieties of indigenous wildlife. The golf course finishes with a tough hole, a long par 5 that is flanked by wetlands on both the left and right. Whitney Oaks G.C. also has a practice facility with a 15-station driving range, a putting green, and pitching area.

Not for the faint of heart
Not a course for the mid or high handicap golfer. Lots of par 4 and 5’s where even after hitting the fairway off the tee you can still find yourself with long iron approach shots to tiny greens fronted by OB hazards. Then add in 200 yard par 3’s to postage stamp greens surround by more OB. Every mishit is penalized.
Check your ego at the door and play from one tee forward of where you normally play.

Meeting the challenge in the hot, smoky summer day but worthy.
It was in the upper 90’s at the first and four hours later at the end of the round, it was over triple digit temperature with still lingering smoke from the week long wildfires. Real challenge for a couple of 80-ish old folks. However, I always like the challenge, especially when I play in a championship caliber course. Today’s game reminded me of playing in the South Pacific Islands few years ago .
Whitney staff were super friendly and accommodating and courteous. The course itself is not for mediocre players with narrow and dog legged fairways. Bunkers had minimum sand and greens are fast and wide. Again, all the holes are challenging but each hole has it’s unique personality that makes the game very challenging and much fun and rewarding. Thanks again GolfNow for getting this course on the roster.

A First
Played 18 w/a particle mask on the entire time because of the forest fire smoke. The majority of the course is in excellent shape. Couple rough t-boxes and greens; but overall great to play this time of year. Pace of play - 3:45 for the round for our 4-some. Perfect!

Pleasant round
Like this course. Not a muni wide open. Makes you have to hit good shots. Gives you options. Do I want to be a hero or.....

Bring your All game
Whitney Oaks is an excellent course but can be very challenging. The slope is similar to Empire Ranch but there’s no chance this course Should be rated about same as Empire Ranch - much more trouble. Always enjoy playing this course but unfortunately today was extremely slow and took 5 1/2 hours to play. Typically get done in 4 1/2 or less. Course is very fair; If you keep ball in play you can score just fine but any miss hits and you’re sure to find trouble.
