Whitney Oaks Golf Club
About
Whitney Oaks Golf Club in Rocklin sits just half an hour from Sacramento but the stunning landscape blanketed with thousands of live oaks feels much more secluded. In addition to the trees, massive granite outcroppings accent the course. It is both a visually stunning and formidable championship layout. The diverse topography is the focus, providing many challenges with the elevation changes and towering trees that line the narrow fairways. The rolling topography helped to determine the placement of the bunkers. Wetlands come into play throughout the golf course, also serving as home to numerous varieties of indigenous wildlife. The golf course finishes with a tough hole, a long par 5 that is flanked by wetlands on both the left and right. Whitney Oaks G.C. also has a practice facility with a 15-station driving range, a putting green, and pitching area.

Hoping for more...
Been out to Whitney every now and again for 15 years ... one of the most challenging and cool layouts in the whole Sacramento area .... used to be semi-private and in great condition ... then went public and went to garbage ... now owned by Thunder Valley casino so I hoped the conditions would improve (maybe even Yoche Dehe quality since also owned by filthy rich Indian casino) ... but I found the conditions about the same ... just “ok” ... I love the layout though. Carts now have GPS
Tough
Good course layout and very challenging. Pace of play was excellent but it was cart path only so it was a little difficult for me due to arthritis. Overall well worth the money
Slow play, poor tee time management
I understand that golf courses need to make money and have to maximize daylight hours but to send off groups in less than 8 minutes between is just poor tee time management. We had a foursome and a twosome in front of us the entire front 9. It was a really bad and not fun waiting. I ended up not playing the back 9 because it just wasn’t fun waiting every single hole. I play a lot of golf and this was the worst I’ve experienced regarding back ups on the course. And the worst part is that no marshal was out keeping everyone on pace. That’s the main reason why I’m writing this review, I feel management did a very poor job that day and I think you should know and hopefully correct the issue. Until then, I will not be back or recommending anyone to play at Whitney Oaks. I definitely didn’t get what I paid for which is very disappointing.
Been awhile since last played
Haven't played since Thunder Valley took over and was looking forward to see any changes (condition) than have been made. No changes. The fairways were cut low and I thought too wet even with recent rains. Greens slower than in past (which is good since they were lightning fast before). This is a great layout and very challenging so I won't be back until summer when hopefully fairways are green and dry.
Beautiful, challenging course
First time playing Whitney Oaks, the course is in excellent condition with lightning fast greens. A challenging course with a lot of water, plan on losing a few balls!
We'll definitely be back, fantastic staff, had a great round.
Good course, bad bar and grill
I've played this course twice and enjoy the layout of the course. I love all of the elevation changes, hazards, and challenges. For me it is a hard course to play, but I enjoy it. I give the course 4+ stars.
My opinion of the bar and grill is less than good. Both times that I have been here, the place is under-staffed. It takes a long time for someone to take our drink order and it seems that the wait staff is more interested in helping the locals and more frequent visitors than us once in a while folk. I was very disappointed in that aspect. I happened to order a burger on my first visit and it was very generic and tasteless. On my second visit I ordered the french dip sandwich, it too was tasteless and the roll was so hard that I couldn't bite it, it almost broke my teeth. The cook in this place needs learn how to use seasonings and spices, and FRESH bread. You would think that if you are paying $13 for a burger or french dip sandwich, it would taste good. I think they rely on the rich locals to support this bar and grill.
The next time I play golf here, I WILL NOT eat at this establishment, even if it was for free. I give the bar and grill - 2 stars.
Great golf
Super layout Love The Challenge on all the different holes greens were in great shape pace of play was very slow other than that great course
Stay the course
If you’re spraying it, bring a bucket of balls. Fun course, first time you play here it would be a good idea to have a scout. A little course knowledge a must in your first visit. Couple good beers on tap at clubhouse help to get over the lost ball. I’ll try it again.
Challenging Course
I occasionally play Whitney Oaks for the humbling experience of this very difficult course. Greens were on the quick side even though it was rainy that day.
Slow Play
Nice course, however slope and speed of greens to extreme for mid-handicap players.
Also, awful slow play for a Wednesday afternoon.
Horrible course management
Hurried us off the first tee ten minutes before our time, only to have us waiting behind two fivesomes. We called the pro shop and were assured that a Marshall would be sent to address the pace, never showed. I will think twice before ever booking this course again, horrible management of a great course!
Best HOT Deal in the area!
Not a course i'd pay full pop for, but maybe I'm just an old cheapskate.
They got new carts now year so huge upgrade there. Greens are always really good, and roll true.
Fairways are bermuda so they only green for a couple months out of the year, but if you're not new to this type of grass it's still playable even though brown months and holds up great for winter play as well.
Great Course
I have played this course few times. The golf rate offered by the course is reasonable. But, with the GolfNow deal, it is great!
The golf course has some very interesting holes that require you to use all clubs in your bag and not just driver and a wedge in. The golf course is in very good condition thought some drought spots on fairways. When I played on 9/24, the greens were very fast similar to some of the Pinehurst courses that I used to play a lot on.
Whitney Oaks has a nice grass/mats driving rage. If your normal driver distance is less than 380 yards, you will not reach the other side of the range which is another range hitting/putting area for its top tier members. It also has a large putting green and a separated chipping green. The putting green speed is similar to those on the course. The pro shop staffs and the cart staffs are very very friendly. We had a 3some, and we finished 18 holes in just about 4 hours on Sunday.
I love this course and I recommend it to anyone who wants to try out a challenge course in the Roseville/Rocklin area.
This is a challenging course
This course has many ravines running through the fairways. Making layups a necessary condition of play. Going for it has rewards for the long hitter
