Whitney Oaks Golf Club

About
Whitney Oaks Golf Club in Rocklin sits just half an hour from Sacramento but the stunning landscape blanketed with thousands of live oaks feels much more secluded. In addition to the trees, massive granite outcroppings accent the course. It is both a visually stunning and formidable championship layout. The diverse topography is the focus, providing many challenges with the elevation changes and towering trees that line the narrow fairways. The rolling topography helped to determine the placement of the bunkers. Wetlands come into play throughout the golf course, also serving as home to numerous varieties of indigenous wildlife. The golf course finishes with a tough hole, a long par 5 that is flanked by wetlands on both the left and right. Whitney Oaks G.C. also has a practice facility with a 15-station driving range, a putting green, and pitching area.

Great Day!
I booked a 4some and everyone likes the course, we have played here a few times. The course is in great shape compared to other local courses, the greens are running between 9 or 10 on the stimp meter. We had a good pace of play and only had to wait to hit about a half a dozen times. It was relatively warm (90ish) and we never saw any drink cart which is unusual, other then that it was a great day!
Bad greens
Bunkers in bad shape, no sand, about one half of the green’s were bumpy, bald spots.
Greeeeeeens!
I’ve played here off and on over the years. When it first opened this track was one of my favorites in the area. As the course has matured tee to green it grown in character. Unfortunately so have the greens, not in a good way. They seem so compacted and difficult. I have no issues with fast or difficult greens but some are so ridiculous, pin placements in US Open positions, on crests, hiding in corners. Realistically I’m older as well and we’ve both aged in areas that aren’t flattering haha but come one on you could fix these issues. lol. The course has passed me by, I’m a weekend golfer till I retire, and I want to enjoy my outing not grind over every shot my, putt like my life depends on it. Whitney and Twelve Bridges/ now Catta Vedera were my go to, TB is now private and the new owners of Whitney obviously don’t want to spend money to trim some trees that need help and greens that are desperately looking for some fillers/ Botox and lipstick.
I’ll stick to a. Purse that fits my game.
Gem of a course & challenging depending on the Tees
Love this place. A real challenging gem. Layout & design is a work of art. I was here a few weeks ago and came back because it's a challenge. I normally play Blue & on occassion, the next set of Tees further back. Here it's the Black. Played the Black last time & the Blue this time. If you don't hit long, or have trouble placing your Tee shot when required, you're in trouble. Some holes require fairway shot placements & blind spots. A lot of the greens are not deep, but wide, so a precise shot is required. I found myself just off the 1st cut of fringe w/ a covered ball under the grass. I could reach out & touch the fringe. Some the the pin placements were just in regulation length from me. You can imagine! I love the challenge. The same for the pins tucked all the way back. I go for the pin so simply a 1/2 club swing difference was all it took just either not enough or too much. Yikes. I'll be back & can't wait.
Challenging and fun!
This course snakes through a residential area but has a lot of natural aspects
Fantastic course AND challenging
This is fantastic course if you are looking for challenging round of golf. The course is well maintained and fair.
Somewhat tight fairways
Great fairway conditions. Greens are a little slow. Will definitely play again.
Becoming a favorite course
This is a challenging course, however the layout is fantastic. The course is in very good condition. Played on a warm day. The pace of play was fantastic. There was no other players within 2 holes in front or behind. Lots of water on the course. Friendly golf marshals.
A Place for a Fun Day on the Greens
Given how expansive and challenging this course is, it’s a great option to escape for a few hours and enjoy a fun, quiet, day on the greens. Today, it was particularly quiet given it was about 100 degrees but still fun to work on my game and not be caught in the traffic during busier times.
