Rocky Point Golf Course
About
Rocky Point Golf Course has one of the most interesting histories of any golf course in Florida. Originally opened in 1911 under the name f the Tampa Automobile Club, it was one of the first courses in the state. It closed in 1942 due to World War II. After being turned over to the city of Tampa for a mere $1, it reopened in 1954 as Rocky Point Golf Course. It is the closest golf course to Tampa International Airport, only a 15-minute drive away. The layout provides a fair challenge water hazards coming into play on 11 holes and sand bunkers strategically placed throughout. Rocky Point Golf Course's lakes are home to an abundance of wildlife and also serves as a bird sanctuary.

Fun
Windy day but everything was great. Love the new carts! Close to the best conditions we’ve played this season.
Challenging but open.
I am an average player. Played this course three consecutive days. Hazards are strategically placed, but if you hit fairly straight you can have a good round. Lots of fun.
Good course to play
The course was fun to play with good layouts. The length was pretty good for my game. However, there were many spots on the course with no grass (just dirt).
Nice little track
Play here at least once every trip. Decent track. Close to airport. Staff very nice. Nice greens. Pace of play early morning is great. Never taken more than 3 hours to play.
Great!
This course is great! Wide open and challenging and beautiful. The staff is always friendly.
New carts, greens are in excellent shape. Fairways are decent as are most of the tee boxes. (Some tee boxes need care)
I will be back soon!
Vacay Round
Was on a vacation at the beach with family and was going to have a cloudy, overcast, but rainless day. Looked on the app and found an early tee time and booked it on a whim. There were numerous courses around, but mostly private. This and one other were close(within 30 mins drive). Rocky Point won out with the early tee time. I was a fourth added to a threesome. Was weary of who I'd be playing with, but ended up making 3 new friends who were exceptional to play golf with and to be included. Great experience! Course was in good shape and had a good layout. Greens were exceptional. Extremely fast, sloped and challenging. The staff were friendly and hospitable. Clubhouse was nice and conveniently located. Was glad to see a young group of children getting instruction in the game. Golf is gonna be fine! I would recommend this course for any big group who was looking for a place to play. Very convenient location!!! Enjoyed immensely!!!
Needs TLC
Great location, good layout, poor course management.
Greens are in great shape. Everything else needs seeding, watering mowing raking etc
AVG
Perfectly fine course. Greens in excellent condition, rest of course mediocre. This course was probably incredible 50 years ago. Seems par for the course, in this area, at this time of year, in this price range.
Friendly staff, brand new carts.
No starter, makes it seem like a free for all at the 1st & 10th.
Not safe
This course isn't a golf course, it's hit a fairway or be on another hole, another tee box. It literally isn't even safe for averagw golfer! I want to be nice but come on! This place is hit the fairway or hit another part of another hole! Just a mess and in a year I'll bet it will be apartments or houses!
Pace of play
My only complaint is there is no starter. Even thought I booked a tee time as single which filled a foresome because I checked in earlier they said hit when your ready? They let two somes and singles in between foresomes? They don't have range captains either so eventually every thing gets backed up. I have played 12 different courses in FL this so far and this us the only course who didn't have a starter.
Having said that I like the layout, the price, and I will play there again.
