About
Rocky Point Golf Course has one of the most interesting histories of any golf course in Florida. Originally opened in 1911 under the name f the Tampa Automobile Club, it was one of the first courses in the state. It closed in 1942 due to World War II. After being turned over to the city of Tampa for a mere $1, it reopened in 1954 as Rocky Point Golf Course. It is the closest golf course to Tampa International Airport, only a 15-minute drive away. The layout provides a fair challenge water hazards coming into play on 11 holes and sand bunkers strategically placed throughout. Rocky Point Golf Course's lakes are home to an abundance of wildlife and also serves as a bird sanctuary.

Golfer Reviews
Needs TLC
Great location, good layout, poor course management.
Greens are in great shape. Everything else needs seeding, watering mowing raking etc
AVG
Perfectly fine course. Greens in excellent condition, rest of course mediocre. This course was probably incredible 50 years ago. Seems par for the course, in this area, at this time of year, in this price range.
Friendly staff, brand new carts.
No starter, makes it seem like a free for all at the 1st & 10th.
Not safe
This course isn't a golf course, it's hit a fairway or be on another hole, another tee box. It literally isn't even safe for averagw golfer! I want to be nice but come on! This place is hit the fairway or hit another part of another hole! Just a mess and in a year I'll bet it will be apartments or houses!
Pace of play
My only complaint is there is no starter. Even thought I booked a tee time as single which filled a foresome because I checked in earlier they said hit when your ready? They let two somes and singles in between foresomes? They don't have range captains either so eventually every thing gets backed up. I have played 12 different courses in FL this so far and this us the only course who didn't have a starter.
Having said that I like the layout, the price, and I will play there again.
Greens were slow but great shape
Haven’t been here in a year but the course was in much better shape, the new carts are very nice
Disappointing
Poor conditions along with little maintenance. Lots of bare areas and poor tee box conditions. No starter just go out and wait your turn.
Terrible day of Golf
We had a 3:10 tee time, however didn’t tee off until almost 3:30. It took us an hour and 15 min to play 4 holes. That is when we realize there was a group of 8 playing together 2 groups in front of us. After waiting on every tee tee box for 10-15 min we decided to skip 2 holes to get in front of the group of 8. We were smooth sailing from there.. or so we thought. As we made the turn onto the back 9 there was a group of 3 that was there to play nine holes and they let them go off the back because the front was still so backed up from the group of 8. We ended up gettting stuck behind them and only got to play 14 holes in total because it got dark. Just not a fun round at all.
