Rocky Point Golf Course
About
Rocky Point Golf Course has one of the most interesting histories of any golf course in Florida. Originally opened in 1911 under the name f the Tampa Automobile Club, it was one of the first courses in the state. It closed in 1942 due to World War II. After being turned over to the city of Tampa for a mere $1, it reopened in 1954 as Rocky Point Golf Course. It is the closest golf course to Tampa International Airport, only a 15-minute drive away. The layout provides a fair challenge water hazards coming into play on 11 holes and sand bunkers strategically placed throughout. Rocky Point Golf Course's lakes are home to an abundance of wildlife and also serves as a bird sanctuary.

Stay Far Away
This is the worst course in all of Tampa. It does not matter what time, what day you play you are looking at a 5 hr round. The people that come here are even worse. It’s a frat party mixed in with entitled idiots who think its okay to talk on the phone while on the green. staff is friendly but god they are useless. -10/10. I live 4 minutes away and I still wont play this ridiculous course.
It’s a Warzone
The course interest I’ve seen it. I can understand that it’s been raining pretty frequently, but this was beyond that. Unmowed grass, mismanaged rough areas, and still asking 65$. This course shouldn’t be more than $40 in summer in this condition. I would not recommend this anything else is available for you. at least the bar has options because after a round your going to need a drink
Try another course
Rocky Point was disappointing. The fairways had bare spots. The greens had weed growth on the edges. The first cut off the fairway was not grass, but weeds. Dont let the photos fool you. I didnt think it rained, but the course was extremely soft. My son hit an approach shot from 125yrds, it landed on the green and the ball was plugged. We've never encountered something like that. It was funny to see the grounds crew working, cutting grass, but they need a complete reseed. The course layout wasn't bad, pace of play on a Monday was good, Clubhouse was stocked. I'm sure in it's heyday it was great course...just not now.
Enjoyed my time.
This was a fun course to play, I had seen a couple of reviews that had me a little scared, but the course was in really nice shape. Everything was green due too all the rain we have been getting. We felt held up by the other groups that were walking, but was still finished I just over 3 hours. It’s narrow and the greens were fast, so looking at it and going, “oh this is flat” we get you in trouble. Go play it and have fun.
Great greens
The Florida raining season is here, and the lush greens are showing up. The rough was thick and penalizing. Keeping it in the fairways was key. Overall the course was in good condition for a city public course. FIX YOUR DIVOTS PLEASE AND THANK YOU!
Greens are great, everything else not so much
To start with the positives- the greens were in some of the best conditions of any course in the area, tee times are 10 minutes so pace of play was great compared to the other courses in the area that pack in 7 or 8 minute intervals, facilities were ok
The negatives- the bunkers were the worst of any course in the area (no sand, just mud and water that doesn’t drain), tee boxes are very beat up, fire ants are abundant, the layout is right next to busy roads for almost the entire course
