The newly renovated Claw at USF, named thus for its many doglegged fairways, offers a distinct layout that seamlessly winds through moss draped oaks and towering pines on pristine Florida preservation land. You will enjoy the fact that there are no houses crowding the fairways. Located at the University of South Florida, this manicured course is home to alligators, deer, turkeys and many other rare inhabitants. You will feel like you are playing in the heart of a nature preserve. "The Claw" is also home to the nationally ranked men's and women's USF Golf Teams. Elevated greens and new Tif-Dwarf putting surface, will test your finesse and shot making ability.

tee boxes in bad shape
Some tee boxes were in really bad shape with just sand so ur pretty much hitting out of a bunker off the tee which is the first time for me. The greens were really fast but u can tell that their drying out so hopefully the greens don’t get burned up. The layout is really nice and challenging just wish everything else was more taken cared of.
The Claw
Zero effort of maintenance in the front 9. Sad that such a well laid out course is in such terrible shape.
Tee boxes are sand pits
Course is not taking care of at all tee boxes are all sand. Sand traps are not raked. Greens have golf cart tracks across them and have large spots of sand and random long grass in them. Sprinklers were on in the middle of the day. All the grass was dead. It is a shame because it is a challenging course that could be beautiful.
Not Bad
The t boxes need a lot of help. Very dry and Sandy. Some of the greens need help. The layout of the course was great. The carts were great as the staff was. For $26. On GN was good. I don’t think I would pay $37.
Stay away !!
We thought that this course being affiliated with university would be an impeccable shape . Tboxes are sandpits greens, horrible what a waste. The only thing that’s affiliated with university is there practicing area which is off-limits to the general public
Great for beginners, budget players.
Beautiful course at a great price. Conditions may frustrate some experienced players, but had to complain at this price. Beautiful nature and wildlife, comfortable pace of play, but pro shop is a shipping container, and driving range is separate from the rest of the facility.
Bad Tees
A lot of the tee boxes are nothing but dirt. Most of the greens are decent but not great.
Course has potential
This was my second time playing this course. My first time was when the signature hole was immaculate and difficult. Since then they have cut down the low hanging limbs that made hole 14 so fantastic and challenging. It still has the distinctive tree line that makes it difficult, if not impossible, to cut the dog leg. But the Claw was missed. The greens and about 40% of the tee boxes were in terrible shape. One tee box, a par 3, was nothing but sand.
Cow Path! 2” grass on the tee box and more Dirt than grass on the greens
This was the worse course I have played ever and I have been playing for 10 years. The grass on the tee box was 2” tall (un-cut) and the greens were not green they had more dirt than grass! For $ 47.00 what a total rip off! And the club house was a 10’ trailer. I could go on forever about how bad this was for the money! When we came up on the 18th green, the driving range and putting green practice area was being cut and watered!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Just don’t play here! I will never again and I will tell everyone how bad it was!
So much wasted potential
There are maybe 3 good/really decent greens. There is no water on the course. The pro shop is a shipping crate. It’s a great layout with no housing, few holes face a major university street, and plenty of nature that may or may not help your slices and hooks. Not sure why no one puts anything into it but hopefully that changes one day
many greens had bare patches. Some tee boxes had no grass at all just sand,
Course conditions
Tea boxes, fairways, and most greens in bad shape.
