#1 Knollwood Golf Club Photo submitted by kidcody on 11/30/2012
Before Sunrise at Knollwood
Drove our first ball in the dark with glowing golfballs. The novelty wore off right away because we had a difficult time even hitting the ball. Once the sun rose we were comfortable and had a great time and great game at Knollwood. The only complaint I have is that the sprinklers were on and we were drenched at both the first and second tees. Kinda hard to have a good time when you are soaking wet and there was no way to get around the spriklers. We will return but later in the day for sure.
Great course but way too backed up
I live down the street from this course and I really do live it but it takes way too long to play. 6hrs for a round is just ridiculous. They also let people who can't play there and play from the blues. The management is awful and they are just taking people's money and throwing out as many players as possible. Very dissappointed
Mr rg
The course was not boring and requires attention indeed.
Most challenging course in the Valley
Knollwood has always been one of my favorite courses. It was in great shape and pace was excellent. Greens were very challenging. Will be back next week.
Extremely poor pace of place
When you tee off at 1:00 pm in the afternoon, you'd expect to finish. We were on pace for a 6-7 hour round. This is simply poor management. We saw marshals and they basically drove through and did not manage the pace of play. The personnel are not friendly. Needless to say, my buddy and I quit after nine holes and we were simply not pleased. We will never play this course ever again!!!
Nice track, greens and fairways are good
The pace of play at this course is terribly slow. I played it several times over the last 20 years and each time swear that I am never coming back.
Great Day, Good Conditions, too bad it was overbooked
Perfect weather, and conditions at the course this Memorial Day. I've played the course over the past 4 years, about 6 times, and the last 2-years I've kept away because of the constant overbooking and pace of play.
Note to management - you could raise the green fees by 15% if you kept the pace of play and booking to accommodate a nice afternoon.
I'll play here again, however, almost never on the weekend again.
Good course, slow play
fivesome walking in front of us led to a long round. Small greens and a lot of trees add to the challenge. A pretty hilly course. Had to use a lot of different shots.
First visit to Knollwood
Nicely maintained, fairly priced golf course in a super LA location. The bad news which would prevent me from going back: we teed off 48 minutes after our tee time and then it took 5 hours to play. Mind you this early in the am. This is abusive to customers. They seem to let and encourage high handicappers tee off from the back tees, it would help to negate that by allowing only less than 10 handicappers do so. Otherwise, no marshalls interested in speeding up play and they just kept stacking people up on the first tee.
The slowest game of golf of my life.
It took us nearly 3 hours to play 7 holes. We walked off on the 8th as we didn't fancy a 6 hour game of golf. Totally overbooked. Got a voucher for come back and play the course again, but not sure if we want to go through that again!
Needs a lot of work
This county run facility that in it's glory days was a private country club is now floundering with a "let's just keep it playable" approach to maintaining everything. The poor guy behind the counter was doing his best to maintain a good attitude as he had no help in the pro shop. The carts were dated, but did run...barely. The greens were slow. Fairways, and tee boxes were average, and the practice range a joke. I'm not a fan of hitting off mats to warm up, but that's all they had, and I understand that, but they were really old and worn out. The city run facilities in L.A. are superior to the this county run facility. On the plus side, they have done work by adding new cart paths. This was my first experience at this property.
OK for an after work wind down.
Staff was pleasant and the greens were surprisingly good. Bunkers were awful and the fairways hard as expected. We got a great price and played with some very pleasant locals. All in all a good experience, just don't expect too much.
moderate course difficulty but good to play
Very good course for the money. Easy to access in a good location
Nice course for the price.
Pace of play was slow, likely due to the difficult greens. The greens had a lot of break to them, but the course overall looked nice and as long as you could stay out of the trees the fairways were pretty wide. A few traps were deceptively placed in areas hard to view due to shadows, but otherwise one of the nicer LA County courses.
This course is priceworth
The crews are so friendly and nice, the course is not so difficult, but challenging. and closed from LA downtown.
BEST PRICE FOR AN ABOVE AVERAGE COURSE!
I'll pay $20 any day for that course! Thank you much!
Greens in great condition, very long round.
I played on a Saturday afternoon and because the course lets groups of five go on the course, my round took 5.5 hours. It was a 3-5 minute wait between each shot.
I will say however the greens were in great shape and was the most challenging part of the course.
Good Times.
Played Knollwood at 7:32am on Sunday 02/10/2013. It was a very cold day. Pace of play was fair to great. Whole round only took less than 4.5 hours. We got lucky though... They was a walking fivesome on the 1st tee and they let us go in front of them. The round would have definitely taken 5+ hours if we were stuck behind them. Course conditions need work. Some hardpan lies everywhere. It is winter so I'm not too upset about it. All in all a good time with friends and family.
