If you come to Arizona to play desert golf, forget about Ocotillo. Ocotillo is a refreshing change of pace from most of the Valley's courses precisely because it isn't surrounded by desert.
The White Course is the most unique of the three. It has only one par 5, and the water is a factor on just five of the holes. But it also has the best hole on the property -- the 479-yard, par-4 ninth, which used to be an easy par 5 but is now a treacherous finishing touch.
The Gold nine is a devilish test and not just because water comes into play on six of the holes. The greens have a lot of slope in them and are difficult to read. And some pin placements are brutal; hit a downhill putt two feet past the
hole, and it might roll down into a swale and 30 feet by. Uphill putts, on the other hand, are extremely difficult to get to the hole, if for no other reason than Ocotillo's greens aren't as fast as some of the Valley's marquee desert courses.

Too Slow
Close to a 5 hour round teeing off at 8am. No Marshal…
Always slow, always rude, never fun.
I used to love played Occotillo but it’s really gone down hill the last few years. First off, the staff is less than friendly. You never get a “Hey how are you?” Or a “Welcome to Ocotillo,” but are met with a “you playing today? Well I don’t have any carts available” from the bag drop and then a “tee time?” from the pro shop. This BIGGEST issue at Ocotillo is that they send WAY too many groups out in a day. Your round will take over 5.5 hours no matter what. You will have multiple instances of 3 groups waiting on a tee box, but will still be hawkeyed by the on course Rangers who try to tell you to keep pace. What pace? A sloth could play 18 holes quicker. The course itself is unique to Arizona as we don’t have many courses with that much water. Reminds me of every course in Florida. The greens are OK, the faurways are also OK, tee boxes are small and not always flat, and beyond that there is a lot of area constantly under repair.
They need to do better. Start spacing tee times out to 10 minutes, HAVE A STARTER ON THE 1st HOLE!
I think I can officially say I’m done playing here. It’s unfortunate because its so close to my house, but it’s never a good experience.

Extremely slow
I recently played at Ocotillo and had a rather frustrating experience due to the slow pace of play. The course itself was well-maintained, but the overall enjoyment was marred by the slow-moving rounds. It took well over 4 hours to complete the 13 holes. We ultimately decided to leave because we didn’t expect it to take 6 hours to finish a round. Th main reason for this a seemed to be no course marshall in sight to help manage the flow of play.
The lack of oversight resulted in long waits at almost every hole, which really impacted the overall experience. For a course of this caliber, I was disappointed to see that there was no attempt to keep things moving, and it left me feeling more frustrated than relaxed by the end of the round.
If you're planning to visit, I recommend checking in advance about the pace of play, especially if you're short on time. With a little more attention to managing the flow of golfers, this course could easily be a much more enjoyable place to spend the day.
Our reviews are the same. They will address the employees not saying good morning but the AI response is all you need to know! Too many people and they are out to make lots of money and could care less abt the 6 hrs it takes to play 18 holes!

Conditions did not meet the expectations
I’ve enjoyed playing here in the past, but will pass on this course until either the cost comes down or conditions greatly improve. Tee box positions were overused which left them in poor shape. The bunkers need more sand in the worst way, it was like hitting off hard-pan most of the time. Many greens were in need of extra care (seeding in bare areas).

Fun but tough
We enjoy it but take a lot of balls. The fairways and greens all slope to the water.

horribly slow. no rangers
Got our money. then charged for range balls and that's the end of it. too bad just a beautiful couse has fallen into just poor mismanagement after the 30 years I've played it when in town

Im from illinois and play there almost every year for 25 years. since ARCIS took it over it has got more expensive with less satisfaction. No rangers and pace of play is atrocious. waited 10 minutes for every shot. Just played 4 rounds there in February. Took friends there. Not great experience because of it. This was not just one of the rounds but every single one and ten dollars for range balls on top of a 120 dollar round is a bit of stretch and really not the money but a big don't care if your here or not. old days are over for this track. Was one of our favorites

Fun day!
We came from Nebraska where the temperature is below zero. Loved being outside in the warm sun. There’s a lot of water on the course and we found quite a bit. I would prefer GPS on the carts to you can gauge the distance to the water hazards better. Other than that is was great fun.

Rude staff
We arrived as the first tee time 7:12, as we arrived the pro shop did not open until 7:05, the pro shop staff was rude as he saw us waiting outside 10 minutes before our tee time and did not open up until he wanted to, he proceeded to unlock the door and not acknowledge us 5 feet away from the door. As soon as we paid we went to the range to hit golf balls, as there were none, the worker there didn’t acknowledge us as well until we approached them and told us we had to pay for range balls. This was not information provided at the pro shop as they didn’t ask if we wanted range balls. I went back into the proshop to see how much range balls were, and was not talked to in a friendly manner whatsoever. Overall the course was nice, but the customer service was the worst I’ve ever seen. We paid good money, as we have been there 4/5 times, and will never come back. The course is great and with the right workers is one of my favorites. Unfortunately felt as I threw away my money as a Phoenix native that golfs multiple times a week.
