Ocotillo Golf Club - Gold/Blue
About
The Ocotillo Golf Resort sits on 185 acres and features lush contoured fairways that flow gently amid patches of mature trees, vibrant flower beds, pretty waterfalls and numerous lakes.
The Gold nine is a devilish test and not just because water comes into play on six of the holes. The greens have a lot of slope in them and are difficult to read. And some pin placements are brutal; hit a downhill putt two feet past the
hole, and it might roll down into a swale and 30 feet by. Uphill putts, on the other hand, are extremely difficult to get to the hole, if for no other reason than Ocotillo's greens aren't as fast as some of the Valley's marquee desert courses.
Two holes stand out on the Gold: No. 5 is a 212-yard par 3 with water running down the entire left side; and No. 9 is a 468-yard par 4 with a carry over water from the tee -- water that dissects the fairway about 50 yards short of the green and water left to the green. Par there is a great score.
Ocotillo's Blue Course is a watery grave; water comes into play on eight of the nine holes. It's not overly long but there's so much water the length becomes irrelevant. The best hole may be No. 1, a 590-yard par 5. Big hitters are faced with the classic risk-reward: Do they lay-up on their second shot or try to fly a tributary that splits the fairway about 50 yards short of the green?

Great facility
I have lived out here a couple years and have played many courses. This course is in my top 3. Fantastic layout and in really good shape. I was told I didn’t even get to play the best 9 (white). We played the gold and blue courses and it was beautiful. Had drinks after the round and the bar was very nice as well.
Great
Played a lot of courses locally and this ranks as one of the best. Great condition and challenging but fair. Highly recommend
Please fix tee boxes
Overall the course is great except for one thing. The blue tee boxes are not level. They all have a big hump that runs down the middle of the box. This creates a situation where it is impossible to have a level lie for the tee shot. While I understand that drainage is needed for the tee boxes, these are unacceptable. Please fix these!!!!
Water water everywhere
I like the courses at ocotillo however there are several hidden hazards so look carefully. Greens were nice, but slow, kind of expected for mid-summer conditions.
Worst part, no water fountains, no ice on carts, etc. services that seem to be COVID casualties.
Course finally getting there
This course was in such bad shape once Phil Mickelson took over a few years ago. The course is finally coming back to shape. Greens were in darn good shape for this time of the year. Most courses around this area have really bad greens. Fairways finally coming back with bermuda vs. mud a few years back. Although this course is a bit more expensive than Lone Tree or Trilogy, it’s worth the extra 10-15 bucks more to play nice greens and decent fairways unlike the other courses that have dried up diseased greens and dry fairways. 1-5 id give it a solid 3.5. The other courses I’d give a 2 at best.
Greens are excellent
I was super surprised at how good the greens were at the end of June. Wow - they were receptive and very true. Course overall was in great shape. Nice work greens crew!
Pleasantly Surpised
Had no idea the quality of this course and the beautiful homes that align it. Challenging and yet fun. Plenty of shade. Just needed water fountains and/or a cart girl and it would have been perfect. Still highly recommend.
Altogether a great experience
Great experience staff friendly and knowledgeable
Paired with a great threesome
Course in great shape particularly as no rain here for a considerable time
Beverage cart made multiple appearances
Highly recommended
Not a great course for beginners.
Lots of water, don’t go for the hero shots, punch it back on and give yourself a chance if you are not consistently striking the ball accurately yet.
Sharp Shooter
This course is fun to play for sure especially for the way it looks in the middle of an Arizona Summer. I got a Hot Rate which made it better.
If I was to give only one suggestion would be to either GPS or provide a display of the holes. There are a lot of hidden water spots and tight lies that the players should be aware of before teeing off. Hit it down the middle on BLUE or you’re gonna lose your ball for sure.
White was a lot more player friendly for sure.
