Course Highlights
Occotillo's layout consistently earns high praise, with water features on nearly every hole creating a scenic and genuinely challenging round. Friendly, welcoming staff and strong overall value make this course a compelling choice in the Phoenix area.

Length 7042 yards
Slope 133
Rating 72.2

The Ocotillo Golf Resort sits on 185 acres and features lush contoured fairways that flow gently amid patches of mature trees, vibrant flower beds, pretty waterfalls and numerous lakes.

The Gold nine is a devilish test and not just because water comes into play on six of the holes. The greens have a lot of slope in them and are difficult to read. And some pin placements are brutal; hit a downhill putt two feet past the

hole, and it might roll down into a swale and 30 feet by. Uphill putts, on the other hand, are extremely difficult to get to the hole, if for no other reason than Ocotillo's greens aren't as fast as some of the Valley's marquee desert courses.

Two holes stand out on the Gold: No. 5 is a 212-yard par 3 with water running down the entire left side; and No. 9 is a 468-yard par 4 with a carry over water from the tee -- water that dissects the fairway about 50 yards short of the green and water left to the green. Par there is a great score.

Ocotillo's Blue Course is a watery grave; water comes into play on eight of the nine holes. It's not overly long but there's so much water the length becomes irrelevant. The best hole may be No. 1, a 590-yard par 5. Big hitters are faced with the classic risk-reward: Do they lay-up on their second shot or try to fly a tributary that splits the fairway about 50 yards short of the green?

Shame the Marshall didn’t pick pace of play up for everyone

Great fun course but the Marshall needs to call out slow play. 5 hours for a round is too long. We told him at the end of the round why he didn’t say anything to them when we complained. He said he just had noticed they took long. Really! You realized it at the end of 5 hours. Lol Great course and other staff besides that. Pro shop is always so friendly.

Must Play

Friendly staff all around. Greens in good shape. Excellent conditions overall. Nice picturesque holes on the Gold/blue courses. I went out as a twosome and finished in 2.57. Best time to play early morning.

Terrible condiitions and awful architect

Total waste of money and time. The tee boxes are worse than most municipal courses and almost no grass. The greens are the worst that we have played in AZ this year. We have played 15 different courses and this was by far the worst. Lovely restaurant etc but we did not come for the food or the drinks but for the golf. Some hidden bunkers and water hazards. Some forced carries for women from the tees. Just a bad design to show off expensive housing which borders the holes. Do yourself a favor and pick another course

HORRIBLE DO NOT PLAY

I had played this course in the past and it was always ok. A decent pace and different layout, but I will never return here again. I wouldn’t play this course if I got paid the greens fee to play there.

The bad - the course is in horrendous shape. The fairways are all brown where there even is grass, there are large dirt patches in the fairway. Where there is grass it is in a puddle of water.

The pace of play was OVER FIVE HOURS LONG. On top of the course being in garbage shape and there being 19 rangers, the pace was the worst I’ve ever experienced. I would have left had I not been there with other friends. 5 HOUR ROUNDS ON A TUESDAY.

The good - they have great service and many beverage carts.

What happened to Ocotillo?

The course is in crappy condition. I use to love this course. It was always in great condition when the Troon ran it. It is in poor condition for such a pretty course. Shame on the new owners. Need new green people. I won’t be bringing anyone soon to this course due to the condition the course is in. Please bring it back to it’s glory

Not great shape

Tee boxes were in horrible shape. Broken tees all over each tee box like it’s been 3 days of broken tees. Very very wet in some fairways. Greens ok but all fairways need to be better maintained. Play in October right after overseeding and was pretty decent but downhill since.
