Course Highlights
Occotillo's layout consistently earns high praise, with water features on nearly every hole creating a scenic and genuinely challenging round. Friendly, welcoming staff and strong overall value make this course a compelling choice in the Phoenix area.

Ocotillo is a one-of-a-kind golf spot in a state full of top golf spots, and the four-star golf course is suitable for both golf upstarts and old-timers.

Ocotillo's Blue Course is a watery grave; water comes into play on eight of the nine holes. It's not overly long but there's so much water the length becomes irrelevant. The best hole may be No. 1, a 590-yard par 5. Big hitters are faced with the classic risk-reward: Do they lay-up on their second shot or try to fly a tributary that splits the fairway about 50 yards short of the green?

The White Course is the most unique of the three. It has only one par 5, and the water is a factor on just five of the holes. But it also has the best hole on the property -- the 479-yard, par-4 ninth, which used to be an easy par 5 but is now a treacherous finishing touch.

Missing Troon

Been playing Ocotillo for the past 10 years and I’ll have to say course conditions have noticeably declined since Michelson’s group took over ownership and operations. Fairways continue to be patchy throughout the year. Bunkers were hit and miss...some with wet but loose sand, some very compact. Greens today were at least in decent shape especially for this time of year. Props to the entire staff for their friendliness which helps offset the overall conditions. Ocotillo’s challenging layout and pristine conditions is what kept us coming back year in and year out. Hopefully, things will get better but until then....

The fairways are in very bad shape. They shouldn’t charge as much when the course is in such bad shape.

Wonderful Club & Course

Played the Gold Course. Greens were in great condition; firm and putts rolled really well and even. Fairways were pretty patchy. I would say the overall condition would be average for this time of year in Phoenix but thought it should be better since the course bears Phil’s name and logo. Put a lot of money in to the clubhouse, why not the course itself.

Ocotillo Golf

Played this course because a friend likes to play it. I found the fairways to be in great shape as well as the tee boxes, the greens were poor. We play twice a week at courses around the Phoenix Metro area. The greens at Ocotillo were terribly slow and bumpy. The worst greens we have played. Difficult to put because of the speed of the greens. Conditions as they were I would not recommend this as a course to play. There are much better courses in the area and at a lower price.

Phil's Pholly

It's been awhile since I last played Ocotillo. Gold/Blue courses today. White course my fav. Greens a lot slower than I remember. Likely due to letting the Bermuda take hold. Fairways & rough areas in great shape! The course is still fun to play!

Great course, rude course ranger

Had a great round playing at this course yesterday, very challenging but if you’re able to place your shots then you’ll be fine. The course itself was in spectacular condition, best one I’ve played here in AZ. A few tee boxes were over watered and very wet but other than that no complaints about the course. However, the course ranger was very rude when he approached us. There was two twosomes in front of us, don’t know why they weren’t paired together, but they got ahead pretty quick considering there was only TWO of them on each hole. The guys behind us, who were decently good, were riding us the entire time and would tee off while we were still on the fairway. The ranger, Frank, came up to us and said that we were twenty minutes behind and then radioed to the club house twice calling us “the slow group” to our faces. After the ranger had gotten the okay to finally let the guys behind us go ahead of us, everything was fine. No delays, no backups on holes, no one riding up on anyone. After stopping for about 10 to 15 minutes to let the guys play through on a hole we managed to finish our round at 4:15 minutes, 5 minutes behind what the scheduled time is. Considering that we had to stop for an extended period of time after being told were we’re behind and still finishing at that time was insulting, especially since we had guests in town with us.

Sorry peconners the Ranger could use some etiquette lessons but you were playing too slowly. Your attitude reminded me of those "left lane hogs" we all encounter on the highways and who lead to many accidents nationwide. 4 hours for a round of golf should be a maximum not your goal and if another foursome was pressing you it was because they were getting extremely frustrated in the Desert heat at waiting over every shot. We have played golfnow.com rounds this past week in 2 hours 50 and two hours 55. You should have invited the group behind to play through without being told and you would have spared yourself (and your guests) the Ranger's rudeness.

Great course, staff not ready or equipped to start day

Love this course, was not thrilled wt the way clubhouse handled check in, had a discounted rate on GN as a single , had two guys that wanted to john me , course offered me a latter time by 20mins but wouldn’t honor original rate , charged every player $10 .00 extra dollars , when I brought them extra business :/ when asked attendant to honor discount , was denied . Also had to wait for range balls , out of bags @ 800am in the morning ? When asked
