Ocotillo Golf Club - Blue/White
About
Ocotillo is a one-of-a-kind golf spot in a state full of top golf spots, and the four-star golf course is suitable for both golf upstarts and old-timers.
Ocotillo's Blue Course is a watery grave; water comes into play on eight of the nine holes. It's not overly long but there's so much water the length becomes irrelevant. The best hole may be No. 1, a 590-yard par 5. Big hitters are faced with the classic risk-reward: Do they lay-up on their second shot or try to fly a tributary that splits the fairway about 50 yards short of the green?
The White Course is the most unique of the three. It has only one par 5, and the water is a factor on just five of the holes. But it also has the best hole on the property -- the 479-yard, par-4 ninth, which used to be an easy par 5 but is now a treacherous finishing touch.

Blue lagoon
Played the Gold-White courses. I think there must be "blue lagoons" on over half the holes. Lateral hazards and forces carries everywhere. Loved the course design. Overseeding was in progress, cart path only on the Gold, but normal on the white. Enjoyed the perfect day and the fun round. I'll be back!
Overseeding
I really love this place. Staff is great. Layout is also great.
Today was a bit frustrating because the Gold nine had just reopened after overseeing. The grass was long. It was difficult to find balls in the fairway, almost impossible in the rough. The greens were slow and it was cart path only. I realize overseeding is a necessity, just wish I had known at the time I booked.
Dead and Scalped
Ocotillo is being reseeded, but they don’t tell you until after you pay. “You’ll be started on the blue course, which is a little dried out.” It was dead and burnt out. Prior warning would be nice. I would have gone somewhere else.
Ocotillo Blue-White
Even with the maintenance staff getting ready for overseed on the Blue 9, the course was in good shape. You need to play this course a few times to get familiar with the water hazards, as there are times when you don’t know where the water is and you can get penalized on a good shot.
Overall, nice course!
Typical Summer Arizona Golf
We played the Blue on the front and White on the back. The Blue was scalped so the greens were extremely fast and if an errant shot rolled anywhere near the water it went in due to the scalping of the course. The back nine White was in normal course conditions. We enjoy Ocotillo due to the challenge. We live in Arizona so playing on scalped fairways and fast summer greens is nothing new to us.
It's been awhile since we played and there was one surprise. Used the be the driving range was complimentary. Now you have to pay for a bucket of balls. That in our opinion was a Value Add that is now gone.
Pace of play was fine. We went out on a Friday morning as a twosome and all the foursomes were happy to let us play through. We got out in just over 3-hours.
Water water everywhere
Grea rates this time of year I was disappointed to find that the gold coruse was being scalped so the only thing green on that course is the tee boxes and geeens. They could at least update the booking site to let you know. Other than that, I had a good time.
MEH
Hard to say, it took 5 1/2 hours to finish the round. Not sure what good the course marshal's are for. If this were the first time playing here it would be my last time. Luckily I know this is normal but it would be nice to see the marshals' or course ranger grow a pair of balls and enforce some etiquette. I'll probably be back, but no time soon. Just sad.
A must play course
Slightly slow play on front but pace picked up on back side. Course was in good condition.
Great Layout, Needs TLC
The bunkers have no sand in them. The greens were rolling at maybe a 6 or 7. If they were to speed the greens up and get stand in the bunkers, this course would be AWESOME. The tee boxes were long and shaggy as well.
Ugh
No driving range, bad tee boxes. What happen Phil? I have been playing Ocotillo for almost 20 yes and it’s the worse it has ever been.
Worst I Have Ever Seen It
I have played Ocotillo for years and this is the worst condition I have ever seen it. Very disappointed!!
Poor Condition
While I have played Ocotillo many times I have never seen in this poor shape. I understand that the golf course is going through major renovations with the new ownership group however failing to disclose to the customers when they book, either over the phone or online, that your range is closed is also significant let down. With multiple temporary tee boxes along with burned out and spotty fairways the cost for this golf course was significantly higher than it should have been. I realize that in the end "short term pain is worth a long-term gain" however it was sad play a course I've played many times and see it in such bad shape. This course is a year to year and a half away from being in good shape again and certainly not worth the green fees they're charging even now.
Course under repair. No driving range. Practice greens are torn up.
A few tee boxes closed. Not one marshal on the course and the group in front of us were painfully slow. Greens need repair. Bunkers need repair. Worth maybe $30 to play tight now. Driving range was closed and we arrived early to warmup, disappointing.
Course was super muddy. Play pick and clean.
Great choice for golf
When I am in the area I love being able to play a couple of rounds on this course. There are 3 9 hole courses and I have been able to play different combinations.
Phil, what are you doing?
Played the 4th of July, never seen the fairways look so bad and the traps are still pathetic. Fairways are 70% mud. Phil needs to put a little more of his money into this course. Will be back, but not until course returns to being playable.
Gold Course is in Poor Condition
The gold course was in such poor shape that two players in my foursome quit after 3 holes. There was very little grass in the fairways and very wet.
The white course was better but still nothing to rave about.
I know it is in July but it compares very unfavorably to other courses in the area.
Under Repair
The fairways had huge areas where the grass had died and is now just mud. Other areas of the fairways were too wet. The greens were in good shape but a bit slow. Some tee boxes were under total replacement.
I won't play this course until they can keep the grass growing.
