Wigwam Resort - Red Course
About
The Red Course (formerly known as Heritage Course) at the Wigwam Resort, which has received acclaim from Golf Magazine, is one of three 18-hole courses at the resort. Built on rolling terrain, the course features elevation changes that can affect shots. Mature trees are also scattered throughout to add beauty and another challenging element. Winding creeks form water hazards that come into play on a few holes. The Red Course is popular among locals familiar with the Wigwam Resort because it is considered to have the three best finishing holes in the area. Although walking is allowed on the other two courses, carts are required on the Red Course.

The Red Course
Always my favorite course to play, Reseeded so cart path only. That made it rough. I'll be back once again after cart path is over.
Getting there
Still waiting for this course to reach its peak after overseeing. Grass around the fringe was terrible (wet and muddy) and the greens were slow from what you’d expect at a Wigwam facility. Fairways and tee boxes were good. The layout is a nice change of pace from typical AZ desert landscapes. Lots of trees and water. Pace of play was solid at 3 hours 30 min for a 4-some on a Holiday. For $65+ I’d wait a few weeks till the course conditions are improved.
Beautiful course, well maintained fairways and greens.
Staff is very friendly and helpful. Loved golfing here!
Long and reminiscent of older courses
A tough course due to overseeding, slow fairways and greens and no driving on the course, not even 90 degree so of course the ball was always a long walk away but that is me not the course. Pretty busy and a little confusing to manage green to t but eventually figured it out..
DJ's Round
Great course, and staff. Cart path only for carts which slowed game played down considerably. 5+ hours for 18 hole round. Fairways are nice but need to be trimmed down. Staff very helpful advise caution on the rough and wow the rough was no joke!
Super slow play
Pace of play terrible. Started 1130 and ended 5pm.
recent work on red course makes for slow play
Looks like the fairways were recently worked on by resodding but mostly overseeding. It would have been nice to know that it was cart path only and that work had been done. We would have walked and/or tried one of the other courses. The fairways were soft but the rough was super tall right off of the fairway and difficult to find golf balls. Rough was super tall and thick around the greens. Found a dozen balls that were not from our groups. The greens were super slow.; you had to really give it a smack which made for poor putting conditions. All of these factors made the day not so enjoyable slow play.
Red course overseeding dilemma
Well we golfed today on the red. We had reserved the blue, but due to overseeding the blue and gold were closed. So, they crammed in lots of golfers and play was very slow. 5 hours to play, ouch! The red course had not been mowed in the second cuts and we lost a lot of balls because it was so deep. It needed to be mowed! Greens were bumpy. It was also cart path only. I wish we had known all the above before prepaying for our rounds, but no notice was given. And, no phone call to let us know of the above. A discount to play a course we did not reserve would have been appropriate.
Good shape
The course was in good shape overall, but a little wet in some areas. Seems like nearly all of the aprons in front of the greens were wet. The ball would hit and stop making a deep ball mark. The ball would not run up. The greens were slow and kind of fuzzy. If you flew the ball to the green, sometimes it would check up and other times run out.
Love this course
Played here several times on GN specials. Can’t afford to play here in the winter so play every chance I get I. The off season.
Greens under repair
All greens are slow and sandy. Several have new uncut sod patches on them. $40 after 10am on a weekday in August. No warning, no discount, should be unacceptable
