Wigwam Resort - Gold Course
About
The Gold Course is one of three 18-hole courses offered at the Wigwam Resort, which was named one of Golf Magazine's "Silver Medal Resorts." Golf Digest cited the Gold Course as one of the best public courses in the state. Mature trees are present on all of the courses, as well as winding creeks that create water hazards, which come into play on several holes. There are also strategically placed sand bunkers present on the course. The rolling landscape of the course causes elevation changes that can affect shots. The Wigwam Resort facility also has a putting green and chipping area.

Great day of golf
Great day of golf!
The staff was great!.. excellent layout and great weather!
Nice facility
Greens and fairways are a bit rougher than usual. They know that and will definitely bring it back to shape. Nice facilities with a great layout and nice vibe going on. Recommended
Rough Shape
We played the Gold course and it was in rough shape. The fairway were being transitioned to a new grass. That is understandable, but you should know that a head of time. The greens were even worse. Most of them didn't really have grass on them. Very spotty. No water in half of the ball washers.
Such a disappointment - Wigwam Gold Course
I’ve wanted to play the Wigwam for some time now, I was extremely disappointed. I want my Sunday back! Maybe it’s the “summer conditions”.... this course was horrible! Dead fairways, Greens that were so dry they were nothing but dried cracked dirt in places (50%). Impossible to judge the speed of your putt, and if you’re looking for grass in the fairway you’d be moving your ball at least once per hole to avoid the “ground under repair”. My buddy who played with me says he played the course in the winter and it was in much better shape. Regardless, a course that is in this bad of shape should be closed till it recovers. Place of play was horrid! It took us 5hrs+ to get though the course It was impossible to get any momentum when you had to sit for 10 min between holes. At least we had plenty of time to get food at the snack shack. Food and beverages were way overpriced. $6-$7 for beer that everywhere else is $4-$5. I cannot express how disappointed I was with the Gold course. Do not waste your time or money here, even at $33 / round.
Just OK
Nothing special. 4 1/2 hr round. Greens need watering bad. Rock Harry. They can’t hold a shot. Cart girl was good. Kid at check in needs personality. He is not friendly. Course has a few good holes and some bad ones. The more I play it the more disappointed I am. I hope it’s a long time before I play again. It’s a local course
NEVER DISAPPOINTS
This course is outstanding! It was in GREAT condition. It’s definitely a challenge with the elevated greens! They were also very firm, so careful with back pin placements. Aggressive shots will cost you; shoot for middle of the green! Overall a very FUN day on the Links!!!
Steady Eddie
The Wigwam property golf courses are always in good condition, however the Gold course was in great shape on May 13th.
Greens had a great pace and rolled the way they looked. Tees and fairways were lush without any bare or thin areas.
This is a must play right now and with great weather in the comping week.
pure gold
Wonderful round on the gold course. no waiting except for a few minutes on two par 3's. The course is in great shape. A lot of people don't take 3 seconds to repair their divots on the green. This is a very nice course; the whole resort is top notch.
Elysian Fields
This is where the gods play. Beautiful, long, and replete with a feeling distinctly “old Arizona” I can already tell my love for this course is going to be deep like a river.
Course in great shape and good value
Course in great shape and good value. The Gold course is tricky to play but good variation of holes with water and fairway bunkers to make you think. Not your typical desert course as it is more of a park like setting.
Greens & Pin Locations
The course was in great shape. The greens were hard to hold and very slick and fast. Knowing the course layout would have helped out. Can’t wait to play it again
Perfect
This is as good as it gets at ANY price. Classic course, perfect conditions and 90 degrees of dry heat.....love it, and Wig-Wam Gold course.
Unfair greens
This is a very fun fold course with great conditions. The course was extremely well manicured and the layout of the course was very fun. What drove me nuts were the greens. Extremely undulated and hard. For a golf course which is 90 years old, you would think they could make the greens more receptive. I hit multiple wedges on that landed on the front of the green that literally bounced over the back of the green. Then I would hit shots to land on the fringe to bounce/roll on and they wouldn’t bounce up. The speed of the greens was fast but playable. You need to play this course 2 or 3 times before you can expect to score. Everything else was just great. I felt that the course rewards excellent shots, but penalizes good shots.
Careful on the Greens at Gold
Second time I've played this track, and let me tell you I thought I had learned something the first time around...but I still struggled on the hard, crowned, unfriendly greens!
Its the only thing that is unfriendly about this place, though. Great people, pace of play was excellent, all the amenities were great [although one of my $40 cigars!!! unravelled].
If you play, bring your A game and a bag full of patience, the greens don't hold anything but a spinny, high iron or a pitch and run. The rest of the MacKenzie track was a great test of target golf, and playing from the white tees, the length was manageable for an old boy like me. If you like a challenge, this will fit the bill!
If you like a little less challenge, the Blue and Red courses are also excellent, and super maintained, and you get all of the same great friendly service. 2nd to none!
A great test of golf.
My first time to play any of the Wigwam courses. We hsd a very windy dayf following some rain days. The course drained very well and the ball rolled well on the fairways. The greens rolled well but could benefit from some sun and warmer weather. I would recommend this course to my friends and would play again.
