Wigwam Resort - Gold Course
About
The Gold Course is one of three 18-hole courses offered at the Wigwam Resort, which was named one of Golf Magazine's "Silver Medal Resorts." Golf Digest cited the Gold Course as one of the best public courses in the state. Mature trees are present on all of the courses, as well as winding creeks that create water hazards, which come into play on several holes. There are also strategically placed sand bunkers present on the course. The rolling landscape of the course causes elevation changes that can affect shots. The Wigwam Resort facility also has a putting green and chipping area.

Fun times
If you’re looking for some fun times and a great course to play that is affordable....this is your place. Always in pretty good condition at a great price.
Forcing people to Share Carts
I booked online as a single, arrived and my clubs were placed on a cart. I went to the range to warm up, and then drove a few hundred yards out to the first tee. About a minute prior to my tee time the starter said they had a rule that each 4some could only use 2 carts so I had to share a cart with the 3rd member of the 3some I was joining. I have a few problems with this.
1. This guy smoked and I'm an asthmatic
2. My reservation clearly stated I paid for a round of golf + a cart
3. It had a noticeable negative impact on pace of play.
I confronted the starter about this rule and he said I"d have to go back into the pro shop and discuss it with them - which would've delayed my entire 4some.
The tee boxes and fairways were in incredible shape, the greens were in mediocre shape at best, but this ridiculous rule is what earned them 1 star; I'd give negative stars if possible. I only golf as a single or as a 3some with my dad and brother - so I guess at Wigwam I will always have to share a cart with someone.........Which means I'm never going back to Wigwam.
Wait
Every green has damage. Either the overseed grow in needed longer and/or mowers are causing damage. This is a nice resort so very surprised at the playing conditions.
good as gold
follow the yellow brick road to the Gold course at the Wigwam. A R. T. Jones design where par is a good score and when you get that rare bird you are more than surprised and gratified.
The course was in superb condition and the overseeded rye grass was eye popping green.
A day at the Wigwam is a welcome respite to the hustle-bustle of the holidays.
Get to the Gold- now.
Challenging course in excellent shape
We really enjoyed our round. This is a very challenging course and it was in excellent shape. There are lots of strategically placed traps, and water... Greens were fast and true.. Will play it again, especially if we get a great hot deals price...
Challenging layout.
Very nice course, difficult greens. Conditions were difficult given the poor weather.
Had a nice time on Wigwam gold
Wigwam Gold was a nice, fairly open and well maintained course. I enjoyed my round, however the facility has 3 18 hole courses, that at times feel like they are on top of each other. This is not a desert course, you could see a course just like this about anywhere across the southern United States. It was priced fairly, and that was nice, but having traveled to Phoenix for some golf, this really didn't feel like any kind of a desert course.
golf after the rains
To be fair it had just rained for 3 to 4 days prior to playing. Today was the first day after the rain. The course was obviously wet. Since it had been raining they couldn't mow the course. The rough was long and wet which made it very difficult to get out of. Pace of play was slow due to the longer grass and taking longer to find your ball. All of this can be blamed on the rain. The greens however, are still coming back from reseeding. They still need some time to grow. The carts have GPS on them which is nice.
One thing the course should consider, the parking there is terrible. There are 3 courses and a restaurant and very little parking. Expand the parking lot.
Nice track
Played the Gold course this trip. At just under 6400 yds. it played long after the rains this week. The over seeding is still long and but easy to get through. The holes varied and it never seemed you were playing the same hole twice. Many greens have false front which doesn’t excite me but nice layout overall.
Pro shop were great and the years until backshop kids did a good job getting us set up.
Playing the red course in a couple of days.
Slowest greens ever
Overall the course was in good shape. Pace of play was good. Service on the course was good. The only negative thing was the greens. Possibly the slowest I have ever played. I am assuming it is due to the time of year but until they improve I honestly wouldn’t play the course again.
R3 review
We where switched to the Blue course so our Handicapped friend could play, they had cart only on the
Gold. We had a good time.
Great Course But Greens Not
It I too bad that such a nice course had lousy greens
We will be back
Best course for the money in AZ
Can I get a ride on the F35s
Just ok
Ive played this course many times and I would say every time I've played it its been just ok. Condition of course is always the issue. Many of the greens were in rough shape and an unusual amount of what I would call crab grass on the course. Not worth the drive and doubt I'll play it anymore
Great course
18 was confusing to find. Course was fun. Fast greens.
Wigwam 18 - Gold Course
Course was well kept and staff was friendly! Greens played very fast but to be expected for an afternoon round in 90+ temps. Would definitely play it again!
Great value and course for the date
Considering they’re over seeding Monday the golf course was in excellent condition today. Greens were fast, a little bumpy but overall very nice. The fairways and tee were all in good condition . It was a very enjoyable day finished in less than four hours
Upholds its reputation as one of the tougher courses in AZ
Just before over seeding, course was fast but the green hard and very fast
All four of us enjoyed it immensely and will be back
Even our 2 handicapper had trouble scoring
Not having played here for many years still remembered the challenging elevated green where missing the green is so important as getting up and down becomes very challenging especially with the speed and subtle breaks.
Most golf courses that i have played have made me share. Sorry.
