About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2019.
The Club West Golf Club offers 18 holes on a Brian Whitcomb-designed golf course that was originally built in 1993 and measures 7,142 yards from the championship tees on a par-72 golf course.
Club West Golf Club claims the 17th as its signature hole. It features double-greens, tees elevated 100 feet above the course and vistas of South Mountain and of the Estrella Mountain Range; players ought to pick the green they desire and then check the yardage. If the wind isn't blowing you back, pick one less club than usual, aim right and swing smoothly.
After the round, head over to the Club West Golf Club's clubhouse, which is the gorgeous home of the Lakeside Grille, which serves breakfast and lunch inside the stunning dining room or on a spacious patio featuring a fireplace and lake view.

Club west was in terrible condition. I’ve played here since 1999 and this time the course should have been closed. No water for who knows how long. Concrete tee boxes. No grass on fairways. Greens were lacking grass, dirt brown and bumpy. Unputtable! Good layout but should be closed until it is golf playable.
Course should be closed
We played Club West last year (2017) and it was terrific. What a difference a year makes! This year March 2018 the course should not be charging a fee to play. The course has not been watered for many months. Apparently there was an unpaid water bill, and the course has been sold but it should not be open in its current condition. The greens have NO GREEN GRASS. It's like putting on concrete, a three foot putt will continue 10 feet past the hole. Pure cr*p! Speaking of which, the in-course washrooms are not working you have to use the club house at 1, 9 and 18. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. This is such a shame that a good course has deteriorated to this poor condition in only a year.
Are they closing the course?
What a shame, we always loved golfing at this course. Staff have no idea what is going on, it is not being looked after and it shows. Greens are like a hardwood floor, fairways are going brown. Gets any worse, may as well shut down the course. Guess it's going through an owner change and NO ONE is looking after it. What a shame.
Way Overpriced
This was the worst conditioned golf course that I have played this year. Fairways were poor and the greens rock hard from lack of water. We were told that the course had not been watered in a month. Continuing to charge a premium price for a course this poor is a travesty and Golf Now should remove it from it list of Hot Deal courses. By rights, everyone who plays this course should get their money back.
Golfing at Club West
I had heard that course was beautiful and layout spectacular. That was definitely the case but the course is water starved......dry as a bone....both the fairways and particularly the greens are in terrible shape. The greens are so dry and fast that the golf balls will not stop and putting is unattainable. However, should a way be found to water the course it would be amazing.....will not be back until this problem is solved.
Nothing good about the place
There was no pro shop and no signage to the temporary pro shop. Staffed seemed quite confused.
Course was in the worst condition of any course I have played. The greens were completely burnt out and it was like putting on brown concrete.
The nines had been reversed but the signage at the hole was still unchanged.
Do yourself a favor and play somewhere else.
couse is in poor repair.
Course is shawdy in all respects. Needs care in every way. Short on staff,. Everything is worn out.
Use to be nice course. Not now.
Desert Golf
The golf course was truly a desert course as they turned the water off three weeks ago and it showed They had three reservations st 11 am so we were statrted last as they said the reservations on their website took precedence A five hour round Just all around a disappointment
Going Down Hill
I used to enjoy Club West but it is going down hill fast! Needs tons of water and major work especially the grassless concrete greens. Ran out of carts, carts that have GPS are no connected and no proshop for check in. Staff assisting with clubs are putting up a good face and did fine. The ONLY good thing is the free bottles of water.
Club West has gone to Bottom
What a disaster has occurred since this course has been sold.. Greens are bone-dry and filled with stupid 4 putts. Fairways are often bald. First cut and fairways filled with weeds. Not enough golf carts. Golfed with two ladies from the Chicago area and they said what was on my mind "Not coming back!" (unless they turn this mess around)!! Tee boxes are in bad need of being flattened level. I can go on and on. This course opted out of being in the Gold Card program and don't even give card holders a break for this season either. If the New Owners are trying to make things better, they are missing the point ....everywhere! C'mom Man!!
A beautiful course in HORRIBLE condition!
Club West is one of my favorite courses so I was saddened when I saw what has become of it. The course conditions from the tee boxes thru the fairways are horrible ... and they are better than the greens, Save your money! It was not a fun afternoon.
This course sucks
I am writing this review while waiting on 4 4-domes teeing off on the 1st par 5. They do not water their course one bit the driving range looks like a war zone and the greens are like hitting onto rocks. For 70 dollars I expected more do not play this course you are wasting your money and will play a 5 hour round. Oh and they play 6 soles and 8aomes for lord knows what reason.
New Management
I have played Club West for a number of years and have always enjoyed the course and the personnel running the course. Recently, it was purchased and is under new management. The first thing they did was to reverse the two nines. This makes the course less desirable. Now you start out on the harder of the two nines which does not give you much of a chance to warm up for the harder holes. Additionally, what use to be a picturesque finishing hole is now number 9 and the current finishing hole is less stellar.
They also did away with the pro-shop and require you to go up a rather steep hill to register and pay for your round of golf. The area there does not even have bathroom facilities and if they are running behind (which lately they do because of the lack of sufficient carts, it means walking back to down the hill for restroom facilities or if you want to go to the restaurant.
Hopefully, they will eventually work out these problems and it may again be an excellent course, but right now it is not. I still hope that they switch the two nines back to the way they were.
Good & Bad
Temporary pro shop (shed) is next to the 1st tee box. I’m sure the restroom door slamming shut has caused a few people to re-tee. If you get a tee time in the PM, expect to wait on a golf cart right up until you’re group is on the box. So you’ll need to lug your golf bag up the hill to hit practice balls and pay your fees. That or (as the bag drop attendant suggests) go into the restaurant and have something to eat. Thanks, pal.
The good news is the greens are in good shape for a public course. Rolling true and fast. The fairways are in decent shape - cut a little short so you get more roll, but less ‘fluff’ when you make contact with your irons. There will be patches of dirt just off the fairways or near sand traps. Basically if you hit it where you’re supposed to, you’ll be fine. If not, bump it onto the nearest piece of grass. Sand traps are inconsistent, at best - stones and shallow. Traps were the worst part of the course. Tee boxes vary from perfect carpet, to small and choppy, to no flat surfaces. For the most part, the boxes were fine, but expect variability. Carts don’t have GPS, no yardage books for sale, and sprinkler heads might or might not be marked. GPS and sprinkler head re-marking don’t have an immediate return, but yardage books would generate revenue. The regulars don’t need them, but the rest of us could use the help. I’d play CW again because of the greens. If that goes south, then it’s not worth the drive.
Getting Better all the Time
Course conditions are better under new ownership. Staff really makes an effort to accommodate.
Save Your Money Folks
Based on our recent experience, Club West is struggling to survive. No Pro Shop, no one to greet you when you arrive, lacking carts and they even managed to allow a five-some to play in front of us on the back nine. Course conditions were marginal at best. Too bad because the course has terrific bones. Lots of better managed courses to play in the area.
Great front 9
We enjoyed our round! They have changed the 9's, now the front 9 is the better 9. The back 9 is good but doesn't have the unique holes.
Disappointed
We got to Club West about 45 min. before tee time booked for 1:51 pm. As soon as we drove up we noticed there were no golf carts and at least 20 golfers standing around. We were first told we did not have a tee time. Then we were told it was at 2 pm. I have noticed that if you book with GolfNow you can get bumped. We were told to go in the restaurant and eat while we waited. Not what we came there for. After waiting for over an hour, we talked to starter and he said he could not tell us our tee off time which was passed the time. He did tell us that there wasn't enough carts for all the golfers to tee off. So we decided to to cancel there and left. By this time it was after 2:30. We knew that we would not get to finish 18 holes before sunset. They told us that we had to pay for 18 no matter what.. Such a disappointment. I really like this course. Not sure we will go back.
