I love this course but…..
The course was in really bad shape for what it costs to play there. I understand they probably had just seeded it but it was really tough to putt with so many seeds on the green.
The pace of play was brutal. It was a log jam on every hole with 2-3 groups (one even 4) on every hole. There was no structure or no Marshall to police it. The groups ahead weren’t letting any smaller groups play through either. We also got there before our team time and had to wait for 10 minutes after our scheduled tee time for us to start. Overall just not a great experience in this round.
The course is definitely nothing to write home about. Decent fairway condition but divot city on the tees and around the greens. Pace of play was slow; took 4 hours for a par 60 18-hole which is quite long. Layout was good and lakes were clean but ZERO amenities here. They should probably be charging in the $20-$30 range for what you get. You could easily play somewhere far nicer for just a few bucks more.
Worst part of the day was the owner taking advantage of our group. We paid for a foursome and had a no-show. I understand that's our responsibility to eat the fees, but then they still paired someone with us (which is no problem) and refused to refund us for our fourth. If we pay for 4, we should be able to play as our group (even if it's 3) and not have them throw someone in with us. So they basically made extra money on our tee time. A simple voucher for a future visit or something would have done the trick and got me to return but he was rude and demeaning about it.
Won't be returning here.
Pace of play
I’m not usually a complainer of slower pace because honestly what else is better than just hanging on the course with your friends! but I’ve played the lakes quite a bit and this happens more often than not, getting stuck behind players that are comically slow. Yesterday we were four holes behind, spent at least 5-10 mins a hole waiting to tee off with no one in front of these guys to slow them down, it took 4.5 hours to complete a par 60 course, that’s just not right. Maybe having a circulating marshal to keep the game moving in a timely manor would be something to consider
Oh, my God!
We have played here before with mixed results. This round was the worst. We tee'd off at 11:00 a.m. and had finished only 15 holes at 2:30--for a par three course. The occasional ranger would have been a godsend.
On the positive note; it seems as if new management is trying to improve the course.
By the way, WE WERE FINISHED when we completed the 15 holes. We did NOT complete our round. Very disappointing.
Fun in the wind
The course was rough. Tee boxes were a little beat up. Fairways were good with green grass. Greens were not in very good shape, with little grass and very fast. The rough is hard dry desert. Nice layout with lots of ponds. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Checking off bucket list of places to play in AZ
I just started golfing about a year ago (well, I have played 3 or 4 times a year since I was a teenager--but that is not really golfing). For now, two of my goals right now are to play at 50 different golf courses in Arizona in the next two years--as well as break 90 on a standard course (which I have come close a number of times). This place has a friendly vibe and I found it charming. It took me a while to warm up, but I started "collecting pars" after the 7th hole. The grass was manicured beautifully and this made it easier for me to make good contact with the ball. The putting surfaces were well-cared-for and after I figured out the speed of the greens, I had a few long putts drop (which is one of my favorite things when golfing). My favorite thing is hitting a ball from 90 to 130 out and having it land and stick on the dance floor. This happened 5 or 6 times after the 7th or 8th hole, so I was loving it. I had a positive experience here and would play The Lakes again if the opportunity arises once more.
Priced Right
We enjoyed this course. Nothing fancy but we liked the layout. The tee boxes, fairways and greens are maintained. Would have rated it higher if they had real bathrooms and clubhouse. The price was definitely appropriate. We will play here again.
Don’t bother
The pace of play at this course was terrible—long waits at every hole made it frustrating to get through the round. On top of that, the greens were in poor shape, with patches of rough and uneven surfaces. The overall course conditions were disappointing, with unkempt fairways and poorly maintained bunkers. Definitely not worth the time or money.

You get what you pay!
Not my type of course!
We just wanted to bang some practice Iron play around a golf course and that’s what we did!
Would probably do again but if you want a game of golf I would skip!
Bang for your buck at the right time off day
The course has definitely had some improvements. I wouldn’t pay more that $35 to play here oil has some highlights, but more lowlights than high. Fairways are nice Bermuda with a couple patches, and few greens through ought the were really bad. Staff wasn’t that friendly and wish they made it more of point to go out of their way to make customer service a priority. I’d give the course a 2.5 /5.
