Lookout Mountain Golf Club at Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort receives distinctions: Golf Digest placed it among the top 450 U.S. public courses, and it regularly features among Arizona's best 25 golf course. It doesn't hurt that the golf club regularly hosts eye-catching affairs like the Harmon Killebrew Invitational, the Royce Clayton Charity Classic and the Phoenix Suns Scramble. The golf course itself offers lush greens that entwine with the Sonora Desert's terrain, which the golf club says it carefully preserves, and features 18 holes of championship golf in tandem with magnificent scenery and plenty of challenges.

There's a fairly good chance that golfers will catch sight of a quail or coyote out on the Lookout Mountain Golf Club at Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort, and management asks that layers give the critters the right of way. In order to ensure golfers' shots go straight and don't snag in a cactus or chuckwalla, the club offers both individual and group glf lessons. This is also a place to enroll in the Hilton Golf Academy.

That's before the round at the Lookout Mountain Golf Club, though: Afterward, mosey on back to the 19th hole, called the Pointe In Tyme, for the drinkables and eatables.

Weird course structure, but working with what they have

Granted I played in summer, the $76 green fee was about $25 too much. The greens were in good shape, but the fairways were rough. It’s summertime golf in AZ, so what can one expect other than good prices. I paid the price on this one and won’t be back anytime soon.

Food was good at the turn and all of the staff was very friendly. Be aware that you have to park at the resort at the top of the hill, not where the great big Lookout mountain golf sign is at the bottom of the hill. I’d arrive at least 30 min before tee time to give yourself plenty of time to get to hole 1.

Horrible Conditions

The fairways are burnt out tee boxes are horrible shape also. The greens were patchy. They tried using the weather as an excuse but the Kierland course was great with the same “weather “. They charged me $109 for the round.

Great

Great layout, a lot of elevation changes. Some tee boxes a bit ragged, but I’m using a tee. The greens are in fantastic condition, for anytime of year.

Played in 3 hours. The staff inside and outside are really nice.

Very over priced for the condition of the course

Paid almost $120 for this round thinking it should be a fantastic course to play. Well let me tell you save your money and play a cheaper better maintained course.

Great Course

LM is one of my favorite courses in town because of the course conditions, elevation change and variety of challenges. The price is reasonable as well. Enjoy!

In the heat of the day

Played the course on a humid, HOT day. Not a lot of players out, but there was one group of “newbies” that slowed down the pace . Good to see new people, but know when to leave balls and move on.

Purse was in fair shape, tee boxes a little rough, greens were spongie on some and had some bad places on others. At least there was a lot of water coolers that were cold and the cart girl was available. Kind of expensive for the conditions and time of year.

Super fun course

From tee to green and from check-in to check-out, staff was very friendly. Tee boxes were in excellent shape, fairways were great and greens were above average. Just need to fill the sand in the traps…yep…I found a few.

Overall…awesome course.

Interesting Layout

My GPS took me directly to the course but I had to go over to the resort where the pro shop is to sign in. No biggie the staff was extremely friendly and helped to start the day right. This was a Tuesday so the course was somewhat empty. I got paired with another single there on a conference who had played the course on Sunday. The first six holes are your standard valley style interesting but not too impressive. The seventh hole is where it got interesting. An elevated par 5 with a look from the tee that could make a frogs butt pucker! The rest of the way in was similar to this. Target golf was the key and a little help from my partner helped on where not to hit it. Overall the conditions were great and the quick greens held and putted very well. Had a great round and enjoyed the unique layout. I will play this again the next time I’m in The Valley. Put it on your short list it’s worth it!
