Lookout Mountain Golf Club at Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort receives distinctions: Golf Digest placed it among the top 450 U.S. public courses, and it regularly features among Arizona's best 25 golf course. It doesn't hurt that the golf club regularly hosts eye-catching affairs like the Harmon Killebrew Invitational, the Royce Clayton Charity Classic and the Phoenix Suns Scramble. The golf course itself offers lush greens that entwine with the Sonora Desert's terrain, which the golf club says it carefully preserves, and features 18 holes of championship golf in tandem with magnificent scenery and plenty of challenges.

There's a fairly good chance that golfers will catch sight of a quail or coyote out on the Lookout Mountain Golf Club at Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort, and management asks that layers give the critters the right of way. In order to ensure golfers' shots go straight and don't snag in a cactus or chuckwalla, the club offers both individual and group glf lessons. This is also a place to enroll in the Hilton Golf Academy.

That's before the round at the Lookout Mountain Golf Club, though: Afterward, mosey on back to the 19th hole, called the Pointe In Tyme, for the drinkables and eatables.

Fun course all around

Course was in good shape considering all the hot weather we’ve had this summer. The rain over the weekend helped. Course has always been fun to play and the staff really takes good care of you which for me is a very important amenity..

Lookout!!

Not worth the money. This course was in awful shape. I know it’s summer in Arizona, but other courses I play have figured it out. I used to enjoy playing here in the early 2000’s; I won’t come back. Better value elsewhere in the Phoenix area.

Rough course

Course is in real need of infrastructure work , there are some areas that are real dangerous. The fairways are in decent shape and the greens are 5 star ,the rest of course is not up to par . Also , no range finder in the cart and no water on the course .

Interesting and challenging

Overall an interesting course. Up and down the mountain. Some blind shots. Fairways rough in some areas. (It is mid summer in Phoenix, so that might be why). It’s a course you really need to play a few times to know where to hit. The staff was outstanding, but I don’t think we’ll play it again anytime soon.

Said I’d recommend to a friend but with caveats.

Used to be a favorite

We live a mile from here and have enjoyed playing here many, many times over the past 20+ years. Their summer 12 pack was always a must for us. The course is in a gorgeous setting and although it's a shorter course, it is still pretty challenging.

After COVID, this course started to get very expensive, even the summer pack had double in price from when we first started buying it. The rack rate for a tee time in July (July!) is over $100/player. So we haven't played here in probably a year or so.

I found a deal over July 4th weekend and was very excited to play here again. I was surprised at how poor the conditions were. I know it's summer and it's hot, again I've played here over summers for years and have never seen it this bad. Lots of bare spots and weeds.

I'm sure the conditions will be better when it's more normal temperatures, but I can't see myself coming back as the prices will probably be $300/player.

Nice course

This was an excellent course with a good layout. The staff was friendly, and the group I was paired with was great. The green was pretty tricky but in excellent condition. The only negative was that the fairways had a lot of dead grass due to the time of the year and the heat.

Play it while it’s cheaper

Resort course that is in very decent shape for summer. Greens legit felt like pillows when you walked on them, very soft so you have to be aggressive with your approaches. Fairways were decent for this time of year. I got it for a steal of $29.99 and I’d pay almost double. No one in head of me till 17. Got done in 2.5. Anything over $70 for this course is a little much this time of year, but a hidden gem if you can get a deal. Reviews are correct, you have to go up to resort/pro shop to check in, not at the bottom.

Weird course structure, but working with what they have

Granted I played in summer, the $76 green fee was about $25 too much. The greens were in good shape, but the fairways were rough. It’s summertime golf in AZ, so what can one expect other than good prices. I paid the price on this one and won’t be back anytime soon.

Food was good at the turn and all of the staff was very friendly. Be aware that you have to park at the resort at the top of the hill, not where the great big Lookout mountain golf sign is at the bottom of the hill. I’d arrive at least 30 min before tee time to give yourself plenty of time to get to hole 1.

Horrible Conditions

The fairways are burnt out tee boxes are horrible shape also. The greens were patchy. They tried using the weather as an excuse but the Kierland course was great with the same “weather “. They charged me $109 for the round.

Great

Great layout, a lot of elevation changes. Some tee boxes a bit ragged, but I’m using a tee. The greens are in fantastic condition, for anytime of year.

Played in 3 hours. The staff inside and outside are really nice.

Very over priced for the condition of the course

Paid almost $120 for this round thinking it should be a fantastic course to play. Well let me tell you save your money and play a cheaper better maintained course.
