Orange Tree Golf & Conference Resort
About
The course at the Orange Tree Golf Resort provides an excellent game of golf in a luxurious setting. The Parkland-style layout features fairways lined with mature trees, which not only enhance the natural beauty of the golf course but can also greatly affect shots. Four lakes are situated on the flat terrain of the course, providing water hazards that come into play on five holes. Sand bunkers also surround every green. Orange Tree Golf Resort's course finishes with its signature hole, where water cuts into the fairway and proceeds to run down the left side all the way to the green. It also requires accuracy on the approach shot in order to hit the small putting surface that is surrounded by tricky elements.

Pace of play
There were several groups that had no business being in a golf course. Yes, everyone has to learn someplace, but not during prime time on a Sunday. No rangers to be found to advise newbies to let people play through.
Avoid
“Pace of play” is not a thing here. On pace to play almost a 6 hour round which is ridiculous. Will not ever be coming back here, course is half decent but so terribly mismanaged to the point where it ruins this course. They need to figure out how to keep groups moving.
Off season
Overall, the course was fun to play. It was definitely the off-season, and the greens were very sandy. On about half of the holes, the cups were damaged, which caused a lot of lip outs. But overall, it was a solid value for money.
Poor shape Poor maintenence staff
Tee boxes were in bad shape. Some uneven. Fairways ok but patches of missing grass. Greens are horrible.
Maintenance staff were plentiful. Quite a few driving to other areas disrupting pace of play. Others just sitting in vehicles under trees. I could not play the 12th or 16th because Maintenance staff were on the green blowing or mowing and would not move even though they knew golfers were waiting. I do not recommend nor will I ever play there again.
Don’t believe the haters
The course is in phenomenal shape, given the clear lack of rain that it has received. Fairy grass is excellent, and the dry spots are in the drip line of the trees showing that they have not received any rain. The greens are a little fluffy, but they should be because if you cut them to true conditions, the heat would burn the grass and then you’ve got a bigger problem. Overall, I think the club (buildings, snack shop, carts, etc) would benefit from a thorough cleaning/brightening. I think given its location, it would be an excellent opportunity for a fun/energetic location similar to how Dobson Ranch has made it a destination course/place to hang out. Female staff outfits/uniforms could use some improvement as well.
Hi Rich,

Orange Tree golf review
Orange Tree was in decent shape. Greens were rough though.
It had rained a lot overnight, so there was a lot of pooled water on the fairways making it cart path only.
Pace of play was good. Ranger made his rounds a few times during play as did the cart girl.
Thank you for your feedback! We were happy to receive the rain; it’s been a while since we had a significant amount this summer. Unfortunately, that does lead to cart path only the next day. I appreciate your understanding of the challenges that can cause. We do our best to maintain a reasonable pace, especially after heavy rain and with the cart path only situation. Looking forward to seeing you again!
Course is in horrendous condition
For charging $60 in the summer, I cannot believe how bad the course conditions were. Tee times are only 8 minutes apart (5 hour round), greens were half carpet, half dead with mower streaks, probably 1/4 of the fairway you will find dead spots everywhere, and tee boxes looked like the crown of football helmets. I grew up playing this course, and is really sad to see the current condition of this course. I HIGHLY recommend playing elsewhere, as there are so many other amazing options in PHX for this price.
Hi,
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I'm sorry to hear you were not satisfied with the rate and course conditions. We've received a lot of positive feedback from players who played before our shutdown and now, but I completely understand your concerns.
We strive to keep the course in the best shape possible during the summer. If you’d like to discuss the course conditions further, please feel free to email me at dbradley@orangetreegolfcourse.com. Regarding our rates, I believe we are competitive compared to other courses in the area offering similar value.
Thank you again for your feedback.
Bad condition
The course is in the worst shape I have ever seen it in 10yrs. Fairways are dirt in a lot of places and the greens were like a roller coaster, they also had dirt patches and dead sod on edges where they replaced 5 yrs ago after they rolled the greens for a tournament and the next day greens burnt. That was 5yrs ago and it has continued to get worse. We won't play ever again. Not worth the money, all the beginner golfer were playing to and had balls flying everywhere, taking 3 shots off the tee. Do not believe the course rating by them.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're truly sorry to hear that your recent experience at our course did not meet your expectations. We understand your concerns about the condition of the fairways and greens, and we're working diligently to address these issues.
We’ve recently been facing some challenges with the course, but rest assured, our team is actively working on a restoration plan to improve playing conditions across the course. We recently shut down for two weeks to encourage the growth of the course and will begin overseed on September 25th!
We apologize for the negative impact this had on your visit, and we appreciate your loyalty over the past 5 years. Your feedback helps us make the necessary improvements, and we hope you'll give us another chance in the future. Please reach out to us directly if you'd like to discuss your experience further.
No grass dead geese
I have never played a golf course like this. I feel like this was what people dealt with on the Oregon trail. Dirt with high grass patches. Literal dead animals on the fairway. And children walking on the cart paths riding dirt bikes on the green and bunkers and group of homeless fishing the lake (pond) absolute dumpster fire of a course and that boils down to management. Dude in the pro shop looked his wife just asked for a divorce. Stay away from this sheet course
Greg,
I do want to apologize that your round was not up to the standards that you have set for us. While we do have a few spots on the course that are still recovering from our summer aerification, we believe that this course is in good summer conditions. As to the other items you mentioned on the course, during the week when play is slower than normal we do not have a course ranger to assist with any incidents that do arise. We always hope our golfers on the course can be an extra pair of eyes for us and notify us of anything that is out of the ordinary. If you would like to discuss more about the course conditions and get a little more explanation, please feel free to reach out to me and I would be more than happy to discuss.

Lush and Green
Loved this course and honestly there was no one else around middle of an August day, which means they are probably charging too much for a round in a Phoenix summer.
Everything was beautiful except a locked bathroom near the end of our 18 holes.
Fairways and greens were in great condition. We happened upon a great deal but if management wanted to do a little better, make green fees lower during summer so Phoenicians can appreciate the beauty of a PV course.
Thank you so much for taking the time to respond regarding our course. We apologize for the locked bathrooms; we usually lock these late in the evening, and it may have been an oversight on our part or that of a guest.
At this time of year, we're always running some deals for the best rates, so we hope to see you back out here again soon before we shut down in late September.
Best regards,
Darren Bradley

Very fun course for summer play
The course was solid and inexpensive. The summer rate is very cheap and it was a great round. The grass conditions were moderate. Great fairways and tee boxes but the greens were a bit inconsistent. Some in better shape than others. I’d give fairways / rough a 4/5 but the greens a 2/5 (using AZ summer golf 5 scale).
Not What I Expected!
Course is just opening after a couple of weeks being closed. Fairways are very spotty…need some grass. Tee boxes were not too bad…had been in same spots for some time…really worn out. Greens were not good! Very slow and something had to be wrong with the mowers…lots of choppy marks left by mowers and greens need some more grass in spots. I was looking forward to a nice course after reading the description on their webpage. I was disappointed with what I had to play on….this is my second bad experience on Orange Tree…2 years ago had a similar outing. Probably will spend my money elsewhere.
