Pine at McCormick Ranch Golf Club
About
The Pine Course at the McCormick Ranch Golf Club offers mature pines, in an appropriate contrast to its sibling golf course, the Pine Course, and is also narrower than the other golf course. What they have in common include the facts that Desmond Muirhead designed both of them and they both date back to 1972; recent renovations have also given both golf courses new greens, sand traps and bridges.
The Pine at McCormick Ranch Golf Club measures 7,187 yards, kicking off on a 398-yard par 4 that requires tee shot toward the fairway's center, leaving golfers a mid- to short-iron from the green, which slopes narrowly. Things get long by the fourth hole, one of four par-5 holes that come in at over 500 yards; this one, for example, makes you place your drive well toward right-center if you want to shoot for it in two. Close out the round of golf on the 18th hole, another long one, at 517 yards from the blue tees, and a tight hole to drive that will, thankfully, provide your last test for the day.

SLOW PLAY!!!!!!!!!
We were a 2-some playing behind a 3-some who were playing behind a 4-some. While the 3-some was slow, due to the fact they had never heard of "ready play" and applied traditional golf etiquette in the extreme, the 4-some was the slowest group of players I have ever experienced. Those 4 Brandons must have been putting for each other's great, great, great grandchildren since they spent 15 minutes putting on every green. Waiting several minutes to make every shot makes for a horrible round of golf and it was quite obvious that was OK with McCormick Ranch. We will not be back, unless the next round of slow play is absolutely free and they thrown in a free lunch to boot!
Two tracks to play Palm or Pine
Played both this trip
Similar greens but different layouts
Central location Scottsdale
One if the first tracks I played 35 years ago
Classic golf course
Rude staff
The person working in the pro shop was extremely rude, the bartender almost as rude and the starter is the only starter I've ever met who wasn't friendly and nice.
I tried
So bad. Just so bad. Gave the Pine a try this time and it was just so bad. Never going back
Teebox’s
The course overall was in great shape, but the teebox’s were in bad shape. If you’re charging $110 for greens fees, everything should be in great shape
AWFUL condition + pay extra for solo cart ride
If you’re playing solo and don’t wanna drive the cart with a stranger, you’ll have to pay $29 for a solo cart ride. Ridiculous course condition as several holes in this course were flooded 3-4 days after the light rain. Pro shop staffs are awful and rude.
I don’t usually write a review at all but i had to for this one. Awful.. just awful…
Pine course is better than Palm course
This was my first time playing the Pine course and I thought it far better than the Palm course, that I played in April of 2021. The Pine course was in very good condition, even though we had torrential rain just 2 days previously and there were no issues due to standing water.
My only negative is that the mats on the range, which is shared with the Palm course, are badly worn and in need of replacement.
Great course…
The course was in great shape, it has some fun challenging holes. My only complaint would be the tee boxes are not in the best shape, kind of odd considering the shape of the course.
Nice course…but could be better
The course is nice , but the lack of overseeing is a bummer. The fairways and greens are in good shape The rest of the course is dormat bramuda that is very thin to hit from. Great pace of play, interesting lay out.
Afternoon Round
Course was in good shape. The person I was paired with went early so I played as a single so it seemed slow, but wasn't really. Course looked different from last Winter when I visited AZ. Staff told me that 200 trees had been lost during a summer storm. It made the course look like a different course. A staff member, Fred, was very helpful. Great customer service!
Good but could be better
Very friendly staff. Course is in great condition for the most part. Strange greens though. Some greens were fast, some slow, some moved the ball a lot on a small break and a little on bigger breaks. But that’s the “breaks” so not really a complaint.
Only real complaint is that we were the third group out and it took us a little over 4 hours, 15 mins. Foursome in front of us were really, really slow. Group in front of them finished when we were on 15.
Great course with great views, but…
This was my first time playing the course. It is important to me that my first experience at a course be an inviting one. That was not the case here when checking in. The staff outside were nice, but the young man inside that checked me in was not polite. No greeting, no friendliness, no asking me if I knew the course. He just grunted at the other end of the counter where I needed to slide my card to pay. The course was great, but the back 9 was better than the front. Tee boxes and fairways were in great shape. The greens were tricky with tough pin placement. One complaint in the Pune course was that one of the par 3’s had a long concrete curb in the fairway. If you hot a low liner and catch it, you will pay a severe price. Most won’t do this, but I did and it was not pleasant. There is no reason for the curb to be there. Overall the course was nice, the views were nice, but some of the staff could use some lessons in friendliness.
Underwhelmed to say the least
Where to start?! Upon arriving, dropped off bags to friendly bag boy/man. Headed to driving range/putting green for practice. Putting green speed was very slow and spotty (must’ve overseeded late?). Couldn’t get very good reads it speed to make a putt. Hop over to driving range. Had us hitting from the mats in the back. They were very wet and had bubbles underneath them which made them very uneven. Was happy when they called our name to go onto the beautiful pine course that I saw in the pictures. Got up to first tee and it was like teeing up in a swamp. Standing water everywhere, very thin turf coverage, and yet somehow there were dirt spots on the tee box and non overseed. Very confused and disappointed by the presentation especially after pro shop hyped up the course saying it was in PRISTINE conditions.
