Pine at McCormick Ranch Golf Club
About
The Pine Course at the McCormick Ranch Golf Club offers mature pines, in an appropriate contrast to its sibling golf course, the Pine Course, and is also narrower than the other golf course. What they have in common include the facts that Desmond Muirhead designed both of them and they both date back to 1972; recent renovations have also given both golf courses new greens, sand traps and bridges.
The Pine at McCormick Ranch Golf Club measures 7,187 yards, kicking off on a 398-yard par 4 that requires tee shot toward the fairway's center, leaving golfers a mid- to short-iron from the green, which slopes narrowly. Things get long by the fourth hole, one of four par-5 holes that come in at over 500 yards; this one, for example, makes you place your drive well toward right-center if you want to shoot for it in two. Close out the round of golf on the 18th hole, another long one, at 517 yards from the blue tees, and a tight hole to drive that will, thankfully, provide your last test for the day.

Good but could be better
Very friendly staff. Course is in great condition for the most part. Strange greens though. Some greens were fast, some slow, some moved the ball a lot on a small break and a little on bigger breaks. But that’s the “breaks” so not really a complaint.
Only real complaint is that we were the third group out and it took us a little over 4 hours, 15 mins. Foursome in front of us were really, really slow. Group in front of them finished when we were on 15.
Great course with great views, but…
This was my first time playing the course. It is important to me that my first experience at a course be an inviting one. That was not the case here when checking in. The staff outside were nice, but the young man inside that checked me in was not polite. No greeting, no friendliness, no asking me if I knew the course. He just grunted at the other end of the counter where I needed to slide my card to pay. The course was great, but the back 9 was better than the front. Tee boxes and fairways were in great shape. The greens were tricky with tough pin placement. One complaint in the Pune course was that one of the par 3’s had a long concrete curb in the fairway. If you hot a low liner and catch it, you will pay a severe price. Most won’t do this, but I did and it was not pleasant. There is no reason for the curb to be there. Overall the course was nice, the views were nice, but some of the staff could use some lessons in friendliness.
Underwhelmed to say the least
Where to start?! Upon arriving, dropped off bags to friendly bag boy/man. Headed to driving range/putting green for practice. Putting green speed was very slow and spotty (must’ve overseeded late?). Couldn’t get very good reads it speed to make a putt. Hop over to driving range. Had us hitting from the mats in the back. They were very wet and had bubbles underneath them which made them very uneven. Was happy when they called our name to go onto the beautiful pine course that I saw in the pictures. Got up to first tee and it was like teeing up in a swamp. Standing water everywhere, very thin turf coverage, and yet somehow there were dirt spots on the tee box and non overseed. Very confused and disappointed by the presentation especially after pro shop hyped up the course saying it was in PRISTINE conditions.
Great Play
Very friendly staff. Good layout, very challenging from back tees. Course in good condition, not great. Pace a little slow but not terrible. Had a fun time.
Oil Spills and Rude Cart Service
Conditions were okay but overall not worth premium pricing charged by the course. A handful of holes had some kind of weird oil sludge covering the fringe that affected approach and chip shots around the green, and everything not fairway/green was severely burnt out.
The biggest issue however was the beer cart experience. Cart attendee was unacceptably rude. I’m usually a pretty laid back person but this woman was legitimately mean to my father for almost no reason at all other than asking what kind of beers she had available. The conditions and price weren’t ideal but this woman ruined the whole experience for us.
On the positive side they let you hit balls as an amenity and the practice areas are solid. Fairways and greens (not covered in sludge) are also nice.
Not worth trying
With so many beautiful courses in the valley, you should skip this one . Too slow, too many houses everywhere, just not a beautiful course.
Maybe for $25 I would play it again
Pine Course at McCormick Ranch
Typical fall weather. Wide open course, easy to find that stray ball off the fairway. Couple of slow groups kept the round frustrating.
Busy on Turkey Weekend but a good value
They book too many teetimes on the holiday weekend but in general I think that the value proposition for this course is excellent.
Pine Course Always A Test
A favorite. Lots of water, trees and subtle doglegs, especially from the back tees. Good job of overseeding turf. Busy!
