Pine at McCormick Ranch Golf Club
About
The Pine Course at the McCormick Ranch Golf Club offers mature pines, in an appropriate contrast to its sibling golf course, the Pine Course, and is also narrower than the other golf course. What they have in common include the facts that Desmond Muirhead designed both of them and they both date back to 1972; recent renovations have also given both golf courses new greens, sand traps and bridges.
The Pine at McCormick Ranch Golf Club measures 7,187 yards, kicking off on a 398-yard par 4 that requires tee shot toward the fairway's center, leaving golfers a mid- to short-iron from the green, which slopes narrowly. Things get long by the fourth hole, one of four par-5 holes that come in at over 500 yards; this one, for example, makes you place your drive well toward right-center if you want to shoot for it in two. Close out the round of golf on the 18th hole, another long one, at 517 yards from the blue tees, and a tight hole to drive that will, thankfully, provide your last test for the day.

Great Value
The course is in very good condition, challenging but not horribly difficult. Fun layout. The wind was amazingly strong, a two club wind on many holes. Staff was friendly and pace was pretty good.
Very nice course
Very enjoyable course that offers some challenges. It is in very good condition from tee to green,
Pine cone
The pine course is a good track. Say hi to Bob at the 1st tee and have a great round
Palm Course
I was put on Palm course and really had a nice round of golf.
Pine course
Was not told it was cart path only
Rough needed to be cut very long and could not find balls
Was told they don’t have enough help to keep course cut
Deepest Rough in Arizona
The rough was so deep the 3 offs lost 8 balls and the constant searching for balls slowed down the game to the point that we essentially gave up searching and just took undeserved penalties. Very disappointing. I expected better conditions for the high price they charged.
We played Silverado at this tee time this was meant to be canceled
Could we get a refund on McCormick ranch on the 11 th October it was booked for the 13 , we played Silverado must have been an error
Very Disappointing
This course is in a great part of town but after this weekend I won’t be playing at either one of the 2 courses at McCormick Ranch again. The tee time was the most expensive of any course in the area and I’d bet was in the worst condition. Tee time was made for the Pune course but was told while checking in that we were to play the back 9 of both courses. (Not really a problem) but the first 3 holes had standing water not only on the fairways but in the bunkers. Not to mention that the course literally stunk because of how dirty all the lakes are.
The absolute worst part was how badly kept the course was. Rough just off the fairway was so overgrown that a ball that rolled off the fairway often times was lost or only found if drivin over. By the end, our entire group felt the same about this course and all agreed that because of the condition, was more like a $20 round of golf not $100. We had played talking stick the 2 days before for half the price and McCormick made those courses look like TPC Scottsdale. The main reason I am leaving a review is because upon turning in our cards, multiple workers almost knew how we felt and directed us to not only leave reviews, but to email the club pro. I would not waste the money or the 4-5 hours playing at either of these courses.
Very disappointing
For being in such an amazing part of town, our round this last weekend left us all not wanting to play here again unfortunately. Our tee time was for the pine course and as we were checking in, we’re told that we were actually playing the back 9 of each course. (Not that big of a deal) The first 3 holes all had standing water up and down the fairways, in bunkers, and stunk unbelievably bad partly due to how dirty the lakes were. ( I live in Phoenix and we have not gotten any rain in the last few weeks.) The WORST part of our round was the rough was so long and thick that a shot hit just off the fairway was many times lost or only found if driven over. The condition of the courses might have been acceptable if we paid $30-$40 but is no where close to being expected when paying $100. At the end end of our round, we were met by workers who recommended complaining to the golf pro before we even mentioned how disappointed we were. Says a lot about the state of a course when workers recommend rating or complaining.
Terrible conditions
This course was one of the more expensive tee times in the valley. The conditions of the course were very disappointing. The rough was overgrown to a point where any ball that wasn’t in the fairway was very difficult to find. If you hit a tee shot that ran off the fairway it was almost impossible to find. The fairway was overgrown as well. A ball in the middle of the fairway would immediately stop with no roll out. For the money paid, I expected much better conditions.
You should play another course
I have been coming by this course for several years and to say I was disappointed would be putting it lightly, some tee boxes weren't in too great a shape, and if you were 5 feet off the fairway well then I'd say good luck finding your ball. I would expect this kind of course in other parts of the Phoenix Metro area, because they just charge a higher fee because it is in Scottsdale
Disappointing and Unfortunate
I’ve played McCormick Ranch at least 50 times in the 10 years I have lived in Scottsdale. This muni has always been a solid track to play any given weekend but slightly overpriced, which I don’t mind given the location convenience. However, this past weekend they pulled a quick one on hundreds of golfers. They were a bit overpriced as usual, ($99 in summer) which is fine so long that the course is in good condition as it almost always is. It wasn’t this weekend though. In fact it wasn’t even playable. We booked the Pine course, which is quite a bit different than Palm and also more expensive. When we were heading to the #1 tee box, the ranger informed us that we were going to have to start on #10 instead AND we would be playing the Palm course front 9 instead of Pine as you would expect. We had a group of 8 people there for a birthday, some from out of town and I of course received a lot of heckling for this ridiculous arrangement the course we informing us of as we are getting ready to tee off. It gets worse though. Our collectively group probably has an avg handicap of 8-9 so we aren’t a bunch of hacks but quickly learned that the short roughs had not been mowed in quite some time and any ball that wasn’t in the fairway, was instantly lost unless you wanted to spend 10 minutes looking for it. We tried the later for while but after 6 holes and 2 hours later, we had to decide that any ball hit into the rough, would be a free drop in the fairway for sake of time. Pretty crapping situation to say the least but at least they have cold beer and beer cart right? Nope, the cooler was broken at the course so we got warm beer from the shack and then arcade only saw the beverage cart ONE time in 18 holes. Disaster for a birthday party to say the least. Absolutely none of this was disclosed upon booking our tee time OR when we were paying for our round but ALL of which was known at that time by the course management. They simply choose not to disclose and rob hundreds of people of weekend round of golf. Very disappointing and sad that one of my favorite courses in Scottsdale is no longer one I will play.
Worst round of golf in AZ for over 10 years living here!
Course was unplayable- rough was so long! Balls were being lost ever hole. Good shots off the tee or around the green where not being rewarded. Bunkers!! Filled with water or no sand!!
Will never play for a round of golf at this course again!
Current conditions are not good
The biggest complaint is the rough. I realize that when you hit in the rough yo play at your own peril but the rough was so tall and unkept you could not even find you ball despite eyeballing exactly where it land. Really? What exactly is the point of that?
Challenging but a tough off the fairway.
Greens and fairways were in great shape. The rough was impossible…thick, long, and ball swallowing. Not a fun round from that standpoint. I may come back in the winter but only after they groom a little bit more.
Disappointing
Course conditions were the worst I’ve ever played in Scottsdale…shaggy fairways, ridiculous rough and horrendous bunkers.
