Pine at McCormick Ranch Golf Club
About
The Pine Course at the McCormick Ranch Golf Club offers mature pines, in an appropriate contrast to its sibling golf course, the Pine Course, and is also narrower than the other golf course. What they have in common include the facts that Desmond Muirhead designed both of them and they both date back to 1972; recent renovations have also given both golf courses new greens, sand traps and bridges.
The Pine at McCormick Ranch Golf Club measures 7,187 yards, kicking off on a 398-yard par 4 that requires tee shot toward the fairway's center, leaving golfers a mid- to short-iron from the green, which slopes narrowly. Things get long by the fourth hole, one of four par-5 holes that come in at over 500 yards; this one, for example, makes you place your drive well toward right-center if you want to shoot for it in two. Close out the round of golf on the 18th hole, another long one, at 517 yards from the blue tees, and a tight hole to drive that will, thankfully, provide your last test for the day.

Uninteresting
I found the layout uninteresting and visually unappealiing. Also, greens are extremely tiny ... although in excellent condition.
Pro shop staff were very helpful.
Soggy fun
Tons of rain recently. Lots of standing water on the fairways and rough. Greens in amazing shape, rolling slow due to the rain. Course is in good shape in spite of the rain. Played in 2 hours 15 minutes as a single with no golfers ahead of me.
The Pine is so Fine!
What a great challenging mature golf course that winds through the part of McCormick Ranch you never see. Water, and technical shots abound. And no. 15 island green, really? In Scotttsdale? I loved it. Well worth the $100.
The course was OK
Tee boxes were in awful shape. Fairways and greens were good. No sand in the bunkers makes green side bunkers nearly impossible to stop the ball on the green.
It passes the test
Very important to me is how eager is the staff to create the best experience possible. I’d give excellent marks to the pro shop, starter and the “Marshall” however the greeting staff is more laid back and were not necessarily coming to you and, please, change this annoying music coming from a bad speaker at bag drop area.
The course offers many different designs, which is interesting to play. On the flip side, it feels like all the par 4s, except the famous and beautiful 15, are all at the same length. The gps on every cart are quite helpful.
Overall, a good experience on the Pine course, we’ll be back to try the Palm for sure.
Fewer geese
I played the Pines. It was good to see far fewer geese than other years
Overrated and overpriced
This was my most expensive round of the week and the worst course...Courses like Octotillo and Starfire have similar layouts but are much nicer and cost less
Great shape
McCormick Ranch continues to be a solid value. Wonderful shape this year and each green ran at the same speed. Staff was very helpful
Fairways in good shape greens great shape rough is ok but pretty bare but had a good time playing and he course
Could use a little work
After a 5 + hour round, waiting every hole. Tee boxes were bare for the most part. Sand traps were a joke, hard as rock. If you’re not going to maintain traps then smooth lips out so you putt out of them. Was very disappointed compared to other courses we played. Expected more for the price.
Pine course
Nice resort course. Fair condition. Good greens. Tee boxes need mowing and seeding,! Played in 4 hrs. Not bad
Fun course great value
Pine course was in great condition. Greens are fast and challenging. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful.
The only negative is the driving range is fairly worn and you are hitting off of grass Other than that it was a great experience.
Poor bunkers
For the most part I enjoyed the course, very playable except for the very bad, bad, bad bunkers.
Not worth the money
Course is way too much money for what ya get. It is more of a muncy course than anything else. Range balls, ya get about 30 included with the round. Staff was friendly, accommodations were up to standard. Would not play again for the money. I played lines from the tips at just under 7200 and a rating of 74 and I’m about a 6 handicap and shot 1 under m. Haven’t swung the club in 3 months. Not worth the money.
Poor
Horrendous experience. Had 2 groups of 3 that the Marshall split up into a group of 4 and 2, with 2 singles (so we couldn’t even play together). Pace of play was abysmal. Go somewhere else.
More difficult than Palm
Seemed quite long after rain, sand traps were all mud, not very playable good amount of standing water, and cart path only ruined a perfect day
