Pine at McCormick Ranch Golf Club
About
The Pine Course at the McCormick Ranch Golf Club offers mature pines, in an appropriate contrast to its sibling golf course, the Pine Course, and is also narrower than the other golf course. What they have in common include the facts that Desmond Muirhead designed both of them and they both date back to 1972; recent renovations have also given both golf courses new greens, sand traps and bridges.
The Pine at McCormick Ranch Golf Club measures 7,187 yards, kicking off on a 398-yard par 4 that requires tee shot toward the fairway's center, leaving golfers a mid- to short-iron from the green, which slopes narrowly. Things get long by the fourth hole, one of four par-5 holes that come in at over 500 yards; this one, for example, makes you place your drive well toward right-center if you want to shoot for it in two. Close out the round of golf on the 18th hole, another long one, at 517 yards from the blue tees, and a tight hole to drive that will, thankfully, provide your last test for the day.

Good Value
I would rate this as more of a 3.5 course if that was an option. For golfing options in Scottsdale on a budget I would highly recommend playing McCormick Ranch and their 36 holes. The layout was somewhat benign but it’s also not a course that will beat you up- a nice contrast to some of the tight desert courses in the area. In terms of Arizona winter gold the green fees were very reasonable at $85 and we were second off on a Friday morning and had zero wait, our foursome playing in just under 3 hours. The greens were slow and painted green with overseed so there was green coloring that ran onto your balls, clubs etc. Still a solid overall facility in a great location and a good value for the area. Would recommend as a place to start or end your trip due to the ease of getting around the course as well as for anyone looking to keep the cost of golf down.
Unfortunately not in good condition at time of play
Granted it has been wet in Scottsdale around the time we played the course was not in very good condition compared to others in the area. The greens were sparse of grass. The fairways were long and full of divots. I would not recommend the course until the greens fill in and it's better maintained. There are other courses in the area that are in a lot better shape for less money.
Had a great time
Enjoyed the friendly staff. We had the course to ourselves and really had a great time. Thank you.
Great Round of Golf
Had a great time. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. Thank you for a great round of golf!!
Great greens
Like a lot of courses in the Phoenix area, the sand traps are a joke(no sand) but the rest of the course was in very good shape
Truly enjoyable
Totally satisfied with my round. The course is in great shape from tee to green. The design is great for tourists in that while there are some challenges it is relatively well explained by the diagrams on the card and the GPS. It is a course where good shots are rewarded rather than punished by some "hidden" trap or lake that only the locals know about. I really like the tee options which give nice flexibility for different skill levels. I rented clubs and the Pings supplied were a very pleasant surprise.
Fun day
The course was in good condition following the overseed. We didn’t have to wait.
Bring your own sand
Best to play elsewhere. No sand in the bunkers, (Pine Course) but there was a mountain of sand between the greens and tees on the back nine. How about putting some in the bunkers?? Told the course staff and pro shop personnel who did not even care.
Golf carts are antiquated. Corners of seats appeared to be chewed off. Was told they were getting new carts tomorrow. Hotdogs were overpriced. Better to bring your own from Costco. The criminal birds will steal your food from the golf carts.
Plainly disinterested in the golfers' experience
We play both McCormick Ranch tracks a couple times a year but today's round on the Pine Course was just poor. Waited on every tee box and just about every fairway. Winter Rye is decent in most places but there were at least 100 ball marks on every single green. This is a decision by the maintenance staff to not have the pin setter each morning choose a decent area for that day's pin AND fix a few dozen ball marks from the lazy players. Today several of the holes had plainly not even been moved. Sand traps haven't seen a machine in weeks--CONCRETE is softer. Sad. Oh and the course was jammed so why do anything, right?
Ok
This course was about what I expected. Typical resort course. Greens on the back side in much better shape than the front.
Fall trip
Course in good condition but not as nice as expected. Lot of wet spots from over watering. Staff announcing tee times over PA system but never announced mine. Poor signage, had to ask grounds keeper where the first tee box was located..Sign at #1 tee box said cart path only but employee said that was for morning tee times only.
