TPC Scottsdale - The Champions Course

Played during winter time, March 3rd. As a local to the area, I have to recommend other courses over this one. Greens were battered and akin to a muni’ course.

I love TPC Stadium but Champion course was rough.

Pretty flat layout, not much elevation change at all.

Not watering the rough during winter time make note. Fairway and greens only.

Unlike many other courses in the surrounding area, this course is surrounded with distractions. Trains, planes and automobiles., well looks of planes, lots of road noise and when you weren’t getting that lots of unappealing houses,condos. The greens were good, that is a must. Breakfast was nice and the staff and practice areas were fantastic.

It’s TPC’s little brother. Very much resortish, but with the lesser price tag of TPC. Layout and course conditions were fine. Staff was friendly and informative. I would play here again and enjoyed the experience.

We flew in the day before our round, but booked the round a week ahead of time. The morning of our round the wind was outrageously steady at 30-40 mph, 44 degrees and it was raining. I called to see if we could reschedule and they said we had to play or lose our money as it would be done raining soon. So we suffered through the incredibly windy and cold round. There were no wind shirts or stocking caps in the proshop to purchase.

Terrible pace of play. Teed off at 2:18 and only got 9 holes in over 2:40! Played 4 more only before it got dark. They try and pack too many tee times too close together to get their money but we waited on every single hole way too long! I complained to the starter at the end. No ranger came out to speed up the play! They don’t care. They only want as many people playing with 7 minutes between tee times. The foursome ahead of our threesome needed to be told to move it along!

Highway and airport noise everywhere, green ,fairways nice but rough and desert areas below expectation. Not worth money .

This was a big disappointment . Last of 5 rounds in Phoenix and worst value for the buck. On most holes you are listening to the roar of traffic on Loop 101 or having planes fly over on landing approach. If you are hoping for scenic holes , skip this place, office buildings for scenery.

Greens and fairways were good but rough provided few decent lies, (dead , dry, no grass etc. ) . Desert areas were like construction zones , tractor tracks , piles of dirt and rocks moved by tractors , muddy areas.

We don't mind paying for quality golf but this place was like a $75 muni course , not worth $230. Played the Stadium 2 years ago and it was great. Would not come back.

Very average. Too many other nice courses to play for the money.

Had a great time playing this course this weekend!
