Legend Trail Golf Club

Course was ok but did expect a little more for the cost. Tee boxes were good, fairways decent and greens were good with consistent speed. Sand traps were inconsistent, some dry while others were very wet.

Really enjoyed this course, so much so we are playing again in a few days. The back nine has some great driving holes.

We will play here again next time we visit The Phoenix area.

We started off well, and for 3 holes kept a good pace, but from hole 4 onwards the pace got slower with each hole, so much that by hole 12 there were 3 groups on the same par 3. We were told the course ahead was full with a group on every hole, but that didn’t explain why it slowed down so much, and the wait on every tee seemed to just make everyone’s golf get worse as the round went on. Disappointed.

Pace of play was better than expected, and the course was in excellent condition right from the practice facilities to the fairways and greens which were much better than we’ve experienced anywhere in the area for a long while. Overall a great day, and we will definitely Italy be back again soon..

The golf cart attendant either needs an immediate attitude adjustment or he needs to be let go. He ruined an overall perfect golf outing. So sad.

No complaints was fun to play was a little packed out but that can be how it is this time of year, no complaints though at all will play again!

Course is nice and has lots of great challenges. Pro shop staff, starter and beverage cart team were great! Downside the ranger! He wants to be a pest and nurse your group. When discussed with him that there is nobody waiting on us, his response was “they are coming”. He was out of line and by far the worst experience. Being done in 4 hrs and 20 minutes playing a unknown course with 3 Other unknown people is very reasonable. When your ranger is the downside of your golf course because of his attitude and behavior that is a concern!

Legend Trail has elements of a worthwhile destination course - built out of the rocky desert of North Scottsdale, it’s scenic and winds its way creatively through the terrain. It has a nice practice facility and clubhouse. Houses surround the course but they’re not too close. However, the condition and design leave a lot to be desired, especially at the price point. Rees Jones made a lot of mistakes here - puzzlingly unforgiving in spots, unnecessary blind shots, overdone green pitches/tiering in places. The 11th hole is one of the worst in the Phoenix area, with a lack of visual cues and no reasonable layup area - the opportunity existed to build rough and a second fairway to the left, but none exists. Perhaps most disappointing was the course conditions. The greens were grainy and inconsistent - I’ve played this type of Bermuda before, but it’s usually a lot better maintained. And really - this course was designed with Bentgrass originally, but it was replaced. The grain makes the slopes incompatible with Bermuda, leaving some laughably down grain, downhill putts, even when the greens are running too slow in the first place. For as long of a hike as it is to get to Legend Trail, you’re better off skipping it.

One of the best courses in the Scottsdale area with a lot of elevation changes and challenges off the tees.
