Unlike many other Scottsdale courses, Kierland Golf Club's three nines sprawl across rolling hills without a single cactus in sight. The nines are played in three different 18-hole combinations. The Mesquite/Ironwood Course is has player-friendly fairways that are generous and easy and the green are large but not particularly undulating or fast, which makes the golf course accessible to a range of different skill levels. The course isn't entirely forgiving though. The Mesquite nine may be the flattest of the three nines but it is also the toughest. The par-4 sixth is especially demanding. The challenges of Mesquite are balanced by the player-friendly nature of the Ironwood nine. There is some strategic mounding but overall the links design is very approachable. The golf course ends with its signature hole, a classic risk-reward opportunity with a lake to the right and sand traps to the left.

So last played here about two weeks ago. 3 1/2 hour round, traps appearing much better, greens getting better too especially on Mesquite after storm and punch. Great staff here, course is challenging from all tees, just a fun play here.

Good Course

Played Mesquite to Ironwood. In fairness to the course, a huge thunderstorm passed overnight, and some of the bunkers still had standing water, mud on cart paths and tree limbs down. Despite this had a great time. Mesquite greens still bumpy about a month after aeration. Ironwood greens a little better. Despite middle of summer, still a lot of green on the fairways and fun place to play. Everyone you encounter on the course is just super nice and friendly. Played in about 3 1/2 hours.

Lot of Fun

So course is in very good shape given we are in Summer. Acacia greens were a little smoother, Ironwood still healing from punch. Course is green and bunkers in great shape. Staff here works hard to meet every need of the player.

Kierland is a good resort course in good shape yet a bit too expensive for the local player. The two groups of yahoos in front of us played music so loud we could easily hear it from adjacent fairways and while I don’t have a problem with cannabis use please reserve that for your personal space, not the tee boxes and across the course. I also picked up 2 High Noon cans off of tee boxes. They had zero decorum. The marshals said nothing. Clearly it is all about the money at Kierland right now. Avoid it.

Make sure to play Acacia

Acacia has the signature hole (#9) although the course is full of fun interesting holes. The layout was really fun to play - lots of hills on the sides of the fairways that you can play into. On the Troon card this is listed as Kierland - 1 or Kierland - 3.

Honestly thought this course would be worse than it was after hearing/reading reviews from other golfers, but I enjoyed it almost as much as other high priced resort courses in the area. The conditions were good. Greens were fast but smooth and rolled well. Rough was hit and miss - some holes had short 1-inch rough around the green, others had dead brown grass, hole 9 had thick rough everywhere. Almost all the tees were slightly unlevel, as a right handed player the ball was above my feet what felt like every tee shot. A couple Par 3 tee boxes were beat up like the driving range. Bunkers had OK sand. Fairways had a ton of grass from the overseed.

Range was full at check in, had to wait a few minutes to practice, the tee boxes were really beat up. Carts had GPS but did not include water. No ball cleaners the entire course. Water was plastic cups with filling stations every ~3-4 holes, but the straws were paper which didn't hold up. Not sure why a resort course at $129+ per round doesn't just put a $0.25 bottle of water in at the start of the round. There were signs to call a number to place a food order at the turn, but when I put the number into Google it gave a different course and there was no menu posted to know what to order.

Would echo what others are saying - it's a course for vacationers - which contributes to the slower pace. Lots of people losing balls, hitting into the next hole over, needing additional shots around the green. Pace of play was 4 hours 30 minutes which was average, there were alerts on the cart if you were ahead/behind of pace. Course had several holes with long walks to/from the cart that slowed up the pace. #9 was the biggest culprit - cart path only and a steep walk to/from your cart for your approach.

Awesome Course in Scottsdale

Kierland was the last course we played on a 4 day guys golf trip. We had a great time and the course was in really, really good shape. It's a resort course and the course layout helps out on wayward shots. You can get into trouble but most of the time mishits don't penalize you too much. The practice range was really, really beat up and some of the tee boxes looked pretty gnarly. I still think Kierland is an awesome place to pay golf!!!!

The reservation was messed up

Someone screwed up this reservation. The Pro Shop staff said Golf Now screwed it up as it we were not on their tee sheet. I showed them e mail confirmation and they said it was not on their sheet which caused a problem with our flight plan in the afternoon. They were able to get us out on the course, but it was a head ahe that was un-necessary. Also, they charged us, did you charge us too? Please respond to that question asap please.
