Talking Stick Golf Club - O'odham Course
About
The Talking Stick Golf Club features two golf courses designed by the architecture team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, who created distinct golf courses with enough choices to accommodate all levels of golfers. The golf club sits on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community reservation, a spot that provides the serenity necessary to endure a testing day of golf.
"Talking Stick's O'odham (formerly known as North Course) course, with its broad, angular holes rewards thoughtful play through the rise of its many options according to one's level of skill. Its low-profile, slightly crowned greens and close-cropped approaches encourage running as well as aerial assaults." -- Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw
The second hole is a par 5 that measures 552 yards from the Black tee and is one of two long holes, with the 17th being a par 5 that plays to 582 yards from the Black tees.
The 18th hole on the O'odham Course at the Talking Stick Golf Club is shorter, relatively speaking, a par 4 that measures 471 yards from the Black tees.

Great course and friendly staff.
Beautiful course, rate of play was perfect and the staff was awesome. Would recommend to anyone in the Phoenix area to play.
Slow play and noisy
Over a 5 hour round. They let people ride that aren’t playing and play their music very loud.
Slow Day
Course was in good shape.
Fairways had some very sparse sections where the ball was resting on hard ground.
Greens are very tricky. grain is a big factor, more than many other local courses.
Pace of play on the weekend was 2hours 45 minutes for the first nine holes.
Back nine time was better, but over 5 hours for the entire round.
Too much traffic
Course conditions were very good to excellent. As there was too much traffic,
at the back nine we were held up frequently so that it took us 2 1/2 hours to finish the round.
Sand& slopes
Southern course- mostly open fairways! Approach shots can be challenging depending on the angle in! Use the tools provided aka. Yardage book and local knowledge of the playing partners .greenside bunkers w/ pin positions will expose your “touch and/ or feel” with wayward approaches into and out of them! Thou, hitting you greens in regulation ? Then, putting will be the next task at hand! Super fun!!! Fast& True ! If your not illiterate? Can make some, never enough of course ! Focus is demanded! Think about hitting a bit less? It will find its way! Not just, talking the putts! Don’t let your eyes fool ya!? Course is a track to be reckoned !! Good stuff!! Give it a”shot” or “fore” over there at the Talking Stick
Slow play
Course was in good show. Over an hour delay due to frost but that’s fine.
Two slow groups in front but course Marshall won’t speed them up or ask to let groups through. Had 5 groups on one hole.
Called clubhouse from the course too but no relief
Course was good but preferred the South course.
Nice
The course was in great shape and the greens were nice and fast. They rolled out well. Play was slow as the three groups in front of us were having a bit too much fun and were very slow. Just one of those things.
Unhappy with the course
Disappointed that we didn't get to play the South Course. We signed up for that one but relegated to the North course when we arrived. Felt it was not the best course for the money. Extremely boring course. We won't be back.
Staff not attentive
Staff could be more friendly & attentive with service. While in pro shop, staff took my cart with all my belongings & hot dog, thinking I just abandoned it. Need more bathrooms or better locations on the course. Tee time was late in day (1:52),couldn’t finish course before sunset, drove off leaving 4 unfinished holes! Course was slow, no rangers to move it along.
One of my favorite courses in Phoenix
It lacks the elevation change and wow factor of a lot of the bigger names, but this course has as much strategy and charm as any course in the Valley. It's wide fairways are forgiving and you're not likely to shoot a huge number here but the subtleties of the greens make it hard for even good players to go low. It's a great course.
It's in very nice condition right now. Greens are firm and rolling well, fairways also had some bounce. A couple areas around the green were a bot soft which was the only issue. Hopefully that will resolve as the course matures from overseed.
We played the front nine briskly then ran into a logjam of groups on 12. Even so we still played in under 4 hours which is not bad on a Sunday afternoon when following a junior event.
The junior event, however, did create my only real complaint for the day. The event put out special flags, all the same color, and the course didn't provide any pin sheets. So all day long we had no idea what the hole locations were from the fairway. That's frustrating on a course with relatively big greens, some of which are somewhat blind and/or not well defined. Otherwise, a wonderful day out on a beautiful November day in Phoenix.
An excellent course to play it forward
I played the more forward tees and found it to be a very comfortable course, with interesting holes and great conditions. My wife played the most forward tees and found that she could reach the greens in regulation on most holes.
The most concerning part of the round was that the website and Golf Now said that it was not cart path only, but it was making for a difficult walk for my partner's bad knee. Lots of construction going on, but still worth the trip.
Great Experience
Course was in great shape. Views spectacular. Very nice day of golf.
Great local
Golfed with a local gentleman, who had great knowledge of the course and was very engaging!
A frustrating day
The round to over 5 hours and 15 minutes. When we got to the first tee we found out it was cart path only. The starter gave us the wrong score card (there are 2 courses) and the staff very poor.
