Talking Stick Golf Club - O'odham Course
About
The Talking Stick Golf Club features two golf courses designed by the architecture team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, who created distinct golf courses with enough choices to accommodate all levels of golfers. The golf club sits on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community reservation, a spot that provides the serenity necessary to endure a testing day of golf.
"Talking Stick's O'odham (formerly known as North Course) course, with its broad, angular holes rewards thoughtful play through the rise of its many options according to one's level of skill. Its low-profile, slightly crowned greens and close-cropped approaches encourage running as well as aerial assaults." -- Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw
The second hole is a par 5 that measures 552 yards from the Black tee and is one of two long holes, with the 17th being a par 5 that plays to 582 yards from the Black tees.
The 18th hole on the O'odham Course at the Talking Stick Golf Club is shorter, relatively speaking, a par 4 that measures 471 yards from the Black tees.

Talking stick (the north course)
I had recently played the south course and wanted to play the north to complete the experience (they have been re named). This is a resort course and plays as such, there are no real surprises or challenges and the fairways are wide enough to land a 737 in. The only challenge is the length and as long as you can hit a driver relatively straight this won't be a problem. That being said the par 3's are also ridiculously long (from the blacks) so maybe this is the entire theme. The staff is friendly and the course well maintained and you can get it for a great value in the summer so I wouldn't say to not play it just don't expect much from it.
Not a Resort Course-Sorry
Rough conditions, no sand in bunkers.
Grass rough. hit out of fairway, cant find it or cart stops working.
May never play again.
OK course for the price
Based on the price and the reviews I read prior to my round I felt the golf course matched my expectations going in. The course was in decent shape and the layout at times somewhat challenging. I think the greens were recently sanded but the speeds were acceptable. They were very hard and it was difficult
to stop a ball. I played TPC Scottsdale the following day and there was slightly more bite to the greens there so I guess you generally have to contend with hard greens when you play in Arizona.Overall Talking Stick offers a fair bang for your buck but I wouldn't rush back to play it again.
Great Staff. Very slow greens
Have played Talking Stick since it opened. As usual, all staff members were courteous and helpful. Played North Course. Greens were exceptionally slow. Fairways appear to be still in transition. Pace of play good -- 18 holes in 3:30.
O'Odham Course gives you maximum roll
I'm not sure how they did this when they built the course, but I've never played anywhere that the ball rolls out like it does here, fairways & greens, and it's fairly level. Wide landing areas off the tee. There are plenty of bunkers, but most are easily avoided. My only objection was the music/noise/whatever that came pounding through the air from the swimming pool area at the hotel / casino. Way too loud & so I would tell you never to play there on a Saturday.Other than that I would certainly play this again.
Not up to the other courses around.
I'm glad we got this on a hot deal because the other courses we played during our trip were so much better in maintenance and layout. We were disappointed on the first hole. The greens have sparse grass and don't get better until the last few holes. The last holes of the North course are actually very good.
Greens were terrible
It is unfair to not notify golfers when the greens are sanded. Too me, it is not worth it even if it was free.
Great value in Scottsdale
First time playing in Arizona, but avid golfer otherwise. This course was very easy and wide, yet a good design. In great condition on Tees, fairways, greens, clubhouse, etc. Best rolling greens that I've played on in years(especially for afternoon/twilight golf). Pretty mountains in the background. Highly recommend!
Great course for the money
Compared to the "big name courses" in Scottsdale this place has good value. Not quite as challenging but in beautiful shape. Fairways are manicured, loved the greens, excellent service. Much better than some of the biggies.
Fun course, pace of play an issue
Staff friendly, fair course, conditions good, bunkers need a little more sand, greens hard and fast. Pace of play was 5 hours, unacceptable!
Nice Course
Nice course and nice people. The greens were excellent. Would play again.
Very playable
The course layout was friendly, wide fairways and avoidable obstacles. Professional staff, on time start and grest pace of play.
Bring a Pillow
Checking in was a circus. No carts available, no direction to the practice range, thought range balls were included but they weren't. I got yelled at for hitting someone else's abandoned range balls and for being in the wrong area of the range! Nice way to get mentally prepared for a round. Slow, slow, slow play. Ranger was driving around but did nothing to get the slow groups moving. Balls don't roll true on the greens. Not going back again.
Not enough tee boxes
This course(North) needs two more tee boxes. They have no ladies tees and notenough distinction in tee lengths for seniors and average golfers.
