The Talking Stick Golf Club features two golf courses designed by the architecture team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, who created distinct golf courses with enough choices to accommodate all levels of golfers. The golf club sits on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community reservation, a spot that provides the serenity necessary to endure a testing day of golf.

"Talking Stick's O'odham (formerly known as North Course) course, with its broad, angular holes rewards thoughtful play through the rise of its many options according to one's level of skill. Its low-profile, slightly crowned greens and close-cropped approaches encourage running as well as aerial assaults." -- Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw

The second hole is a par 5 that measures 552 yards from the Black tee and is one of two long holes, with the 17th being a par 5 that plays to 582 yards from the Black tees.

The 18th hole on the O'odham Course at the Talking Stick Golf Club is shorter, relatively speaking, a par 4 that measures 471 yards from the Black tees.

Kind of whatever

A bombers course. Flat and wide fairways. Not much to it. Mosquitos were out of control. Range and putting greens closed and still charged $85.

A Good Resort Course

Playing in the afternoon is always a gamble, but the pace of play was good and we finished the round in just under 4 hours. Staff were friendly and facilities in good shape. The driving range and putting green were both closed due to over-seeding. The course is less challenging than other "target golf" desert courses in the area, featuring many wide open straight holes. It's often possible to hit your tee shot 40 yards in the wrong direction to the left or right and still be in the green stuff. Some holes offer challenging greens with tricky bunkers. Great views of the McDowell Mountains and sunsets over Camelback.

Course was flooded

The course was completely flooded due to a rain 4 days ago. driving range was still completely under water, several holes became "water holes". Staff was in the middle of changing management- most didn't care to even be there, and didn't really know what was going on.. Didn't stop them from still charging premium rates though Cart girl was consistent, but if you are going to paly here, hold out for the South course- much more enjoyable

Nice course, but overpriced.

Wide fairways. Relatively flat. Nothing really stands out as worth remembering. I doubt this course has a memorable signature hole. Pace of play was fast because it was end of summer and very hot, so few people were playing. Excellent quesadillas in the restaurant. Friendly staff. Exactly what you would expect of a resort staff. Price was far more than what we paid at other nicer courses in the area at the same time. I would say it is okay course, but if you look around, then you can find better deals in the area.

mosquito city

How dare you send players on the course when you know there is an infestation of mosquitos. I should have guessed when the golf shop had mosquito repellent lined up on the counter. Yes I did buy some but it still was not enough. So how can I possibly rate the course when I'm trying to run all the time.

Fairways in great condition

Really enjoyed the course. Varied holes which made it interesting and enjoyable to play. Course is very fair. Fairways and teeboxes were in amazing condition; particularly for this time of year. The only negative was the light layer of sand on the greens, which made them very difficult to read and slower than anticipated. A very enjoyable golf experience overall!

Bumpy, slow greens

I enjoy Talking Stick as a course that can be all things to all players. It offers plenty of challenge for good players, but doesn't overly punish beginners. An excellent track in that respect.

My only complaint from this day would be that, while the practice green rolled smooth and fast, the greens on the North Course were bumpy, slow, and just generally still coming back from aeration. They were fine in and of themselves, especially for August in Arizona, but it's very frustrating to have such a big disconnect between what you try to get used to on the practice green and the actual conditions on the course.

Also not a fan of the loud music coming from the hotel. The hotel is some distance away, but even on a Sunday morning, the music was loud enough that it was annoying and could be heard from every part of the course. Hard to imagine how loud it was at the hotel itself, but that's a good way to spoil the peacefulness of an otherwise nicely secluded golf course.

worth it

This is a Troon managed course and, as always, they are in excellent condition. the North course requires shot placement on approach shots. Fairways are wide and fairly forgiving. Greens were plugged and slow.

Enjoyable Course

Excellent turf practice range with Callaway balls. The course is a fairly docile layout from 6500 yards. Playing a combo or from the tips would offer more of a challenge for low handicappers. Fairways were very nice and the desert areas are not as covered with bushes as many others. But if off line, you can get stuck behind a bush. The greens were topsoiled, so putting was hit and miss and the greens were pretty hard as I was told they were redone last year. They were in nice shape. Distances between greens and tee boxes are the shortest I have ever seen so this course is easily walkable but I do not know if this is allowed. The course is flat. Food and beverage in the grill was very good as was the service.

Desert golf at its best

Played early morning as a single. Only negative for me was that pro shop guy said that they don't normally allow singles out first in the morning because I might interfere with the maintenance crew if I play too fast. Next booked tee time was 650 so I told him I'd just play slower than I normally would. So on some holes I played two balls then on the back 9 I replayed two holes. I still finished in less than 3 hours. I played the north course from the gold tees which I found a little long for me. I had a long iron into the green on several par fours. The course is in excellent condition. Plenty of sand and doglegs. A couple of par threes are over 200 yards from the gold tees but I didn't want to move up to the jade because the course dropped to 5900 yds from them but was about 6400 from gold. Player assistants and beverage cart folks were friendly and courteous. No water hazards on this course, not sure if it's the same on the south course. Only negative is that sometimes finding a readable yardage marker on a sprinkler head was problematic. I had a great time and will definitely recommend this course to my out of town friends.
