Hillcrest Golf Club at Sun City West

I'm a glass half full guy and seldom, if ever write negative reviews. Hands down, this was the worst conditioned golf course I've played, ever.

I was embarrassed that I had invited a friend to play this course. We paid next to nothing but that was too much. This course has been let go on a level that I would previously have not imagined. It failed on every apsect of course maintenance. The tee boxes are not level or cut down, cart paths are in shambles, fairways not cut, greens in horrible condition and the bunkers comparable to a dried out lake bed with virtually no sand.

Our tee time was at 1pm and there was no play that followed us for the rest of the day, now I know why. It was as though we snuck on to a golf course that had been closed and preparing for redevlopment.

Mai Maintenance and quality of the Fairways and and the car pass were not good. Drop offs at the end of some of the cart pads were very large Course was covered with a lot of areas of stones and gravel. Not an enjoyable golf course.

Nice layout but there were many areas in the fairways that were bare dirt with no grass. The greens were very slow.

Course is in horrible/worst shape you could imagine. It can't be called a golf course in this condition. Snack shop closed, no water. Used to be one of my favorite places to play. You have be warned.

The golf course was in extremely poor condition. It was difficult to find grass in the fairways. The worst conditions I have ever played in.

This is the time of year when they punch and sand the greens and I expect it. So I will call the course before booking to ensure the greens are playable. I called Hillcrest 4 times before I booked and no one answered the phone!

Had someone answered I would have found out the just punched! Then played elsewhere! The greens were unplayable. They might be better in November so I wouldn't advise playing there until then.

I love this course, but will not play it again until I hear it gets in better shape. It was hot, which is not usually an issue. It became an issue as none of the water jugs were filled, and there was no drink cart. The only water was on 16, and it was warm. The greens are dry and lots of bare dirt. The fairways are bare dirt in some places too. I know there is a water shortage, but if the course is going be dried out, don't charge $35 a round.

Staff was incredible. Course is a bit beat up and greens aren’t great but for 10 buck hot deal is always worth it.

I have played Hillcrest for several decades. It is a wide-open, but challenging layout. The greens have a lot of subtle and not-so subtle undulations and slopes which makes putting challenging, but fair. The are very few areas where even a wildly off-target shot could possibly hit a house. Sand traps may or may not have sand and are very rarely raked. From the back tees it is very long.

This used to be a premier course that hosted several professional tournaments (i.e. Ladies, Seniors and such). However, it is just a ghost of it former condition, because it is not maintained well. Poor watering leaves many large bad spots even in the middle of fairways or greens.

The price cannot be beat. It is a great place to go and work on swing mechanics if you would rather practice on a course rather than at a driving range. During the summer afternoons I find it very easy to play two balls, and rarely have anyone in front or behind me.

My nephew & I were looking to get out for a round after a few years of not playing. We chose Hillcrest due to it's wide open fairways and past good condition. Unfortunately the condition of the course was horrible with alot of bare areas on the fairway and greens. Greens were not readable & super slow due to the dead areas. I was hoping it would be in the same condition as it was a few years ago, but its not. I will not return unless the conditions get better.

Pretty fun course and there was no one out there so we played fast. Fun and easy course. Greens had just been punched so weren’t the best and the fairways weren’t great but over all layout was fun!
