Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.

Cahoon Plantation in Chesapeake originally opened with a 27-hole layout but it has seen a major transformation since opening. One of the nines was eliminated and the flat terrain was molded into a gently rolling championship layout. The golf course has mostly parkland holes but there are some that have a links-feel, guaranteeing that there's enough variety to please any golfer. The layout is mostly wide open with very few trees to obscure the views. Water comes into play frequently throughout the golf course and there are a few strategically placed bunkers as well. The 15th hole is Cahoon Plantation's best par 3. The green is well protected by bunkers and a small pond but there is still an opportunity for a birdie, which will probably be your last chance for one before you face the difficult closing stretch of holes.

Beautiful course at just the right challenge.

Course is well maintained and clean. Rolling fairways offer great balance for all skill levels. Very enjoyable round. Clean restrooms and great clubhouse.

GREAT COURSE, EVEN FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR, HOWEVER...

ENJOYED THE COURSE HOWEVER THE CARTS LEFT A BIT TO BE DESIRED. ON COURSE BATHROOMS ARE LESS THAN DESIRABLE. FOR THOSE OF US WHO STAND ITS CREEPY. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO SQUAT WELL.... SORRY LADIES. YOU MAY WANT TO WAIT UNTIL THE TURN. IF IT WASN'T FOR THOSE ISSUES THIS WOULD BE A STELLAR REVIEW ABOUT THE COURSE. NOT ABOUT OTHER ISSUES OR PERSONAL PET PEEVES. FOUND THE COURSE CHALLENGING AND INTERESTING. THE AMEN CORNER ON 15,16, & 17. LOVED IT EVEN THOUGH IT DIDN'T LOVE ME IN RETURN. I JUST WISH THE LITTLE THINGS LIKE PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED DIDN'T STAND OUT SO MUCH IN MY MIND. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN ONLY A REVIEW ABOUT A GREAT ROUND OF GOLF!

Had a great time playing in the rain.

Played on a rainy day and was the only golfer on the course. Course conditions were wet but ball rolled well. Only one plugged ball for the round.

All Bent Grass Tees, Fairways and Greens...

Excellent conditions throughout the course... Green, Smooth Tee Boxes, Fairways and Putting surfaces. Probably the most playable light rough I have ever experienced. Some of the best golf in Tidewater... Go play!

"Hackers Beware". You should be able to get through the front nine easily. However the back nine offers a few fairly close home owner properties to maneuver past.

Tee's and fairways had just been verticut and aerated.

The course has it difficult areas, stray right or left and you are in some very thick Bermuda rough I call ruff ruff, since you hit it like a dog trying to get out of it. The greens were in excellent shape the fairways had just been mowed and verticut. The tee's had just been punched. I really don't like playing this course, because I have trouble staying out of trouble, but then again this is not the courses fault. It does have some holes that can be reach in 2 on par 5's. Just requires a long drive and a precise 2nd shot. The carts are gas which makes it hard to hear someone yelling FORE!! As the ball bounced off my front window and scared the He// out of me. I would not play the course at full price (around $45-$55). The $22 I paid was worth it to play an in shape course while knowing I was in for some abuse.

Course is challenging.

2nd cut is over 5 inches long! Spent way too much time looking for balls that were within 5 ft. of the fairways! Greens had been aerated within last week, but played ok. Fairways are great. Save the long grass for when the pros come to play. We just want to have a good time....

Jim and Austin

The course was very well manicured. We felt the speed of the greens were great, very playable. The fairway bunkering was strategic but not unfair if your playing from the appropriate tee yardage. Also enjoyable was the fact we used almost every club in our golf bags. Would play this again if in the area on another trip.

Coming back

This place is coming back from the tragic loss of their greenskeeper. Still some of the best fairways in the area. Several greens need work, but seems to be improving.

10 Minutes from home

I only play this course when I can book time on GolfNow.com. If not for the online savings I probably wouldn't play here. Although it's a nice course I cannot justify standard green fees. Even with savings online, do not recommend playing this course after it's been raining. Course seems to take about 3 to 4 days to become enjoyable to play.

best fairways and greens

i have played this course in winter and summer and the fairways and greens are perfect in both seasons. the fareways are soft and you can get under the ball. ball lands on greens and stops without continuing to roll off. plenty of sand and seed mix is provided for divots, just wish more people would use it. best course i have played

Good challenge

The greens were "ball marked" a bit but rolled ok. The course is a good mix of tough challenge holes and enjoyable play holes. T

The best golf course in Chesapeake!

The condition of this course is excellent. It may not be challenging enough for low handicap players, however the fairway and the greens will make it up to you. It is by far the best course in the Chesapeake area.
