DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge
About
Perched in the hills above Santa Cruz, DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge features plenty of elevation changes as well as tight, tree-lined fairways making this short layout anything but a cinch. The result of the tight layout, however, often translates into long rounds as higher handicappers look for their golf balls in the woods. Designed by Bert Stamps, the golf course opened in 1970. Conditioning is average, but DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge's green fees are a small fraction of its more famous neighbors.

Awfully dry
This used to be my home course. I haven’t played here in over 5 years. I love this course, tough as always, but it is really dried out. Played with a nice young man. Played like crap. All in all it was a fun round.
It’s ok but not great
Lots of blind fairways. Gully’s and blind corners that made it difficult if you hadn’t played there before.
A lot of short par 4’s made it easier. The greens were in nice shape.
Very nice golf course came from out of town for the weekend to play here. Course is fun and challenging good layout all together will be back soon during the got months, the pace of play was perfect.
Fore!!!
Watch out! You'll get hit with great value for your bucks. Enjoy!
Fun place to play
I wish it was a little less pricey on weekends
$95 many other public courses less on weekends.
But I do enjoy the course
While the staff was helpful and friendly, the course was dry and to firm. Needlessly balls were lost, hard bounces were common and while the majority of the course was green the conditions were poor. When the layout is primarily target golf, you should be able to hold shots, but that was not the case. The area near the coast is a special one but it is not a value or a pleasant experience.
First Time Playing
From the time we checked in we felt welcomed and enjoyed the layout of the course. We look forward to being able to play when the greens have completely recovered from being sanded.
Not a great experience
I made my reservation and drove 35 minutes to the course. Was told at the pro shop that they would call me from the range. No call came and I showed up to the tee at my scheduled time. Nobody was there so I drove down the first fairway to ask the group ahead what their tee time was. The fairway was pretty ratty as I drove to the group ahead and They confirmed they were the tee time just before mine and they were a foursome. Went back to the tee and another foursome had shown up, two were wearing jeans and tee shirts. They were not interested in me joining them so I called the pro shop. They were not aware and said I could go out 45 minutes later. Since they didn’t have a starter and it was already after 2 pm, I asked for a gift certificate , which they gave me. Overall, it seemed like a very unorganized and ghetto type experience and I not only felt overdressed but, strangely, relieved that I didn’t get to play.
There was more sand on the greens than in the bunkers!!
I would not have paid money to play with the greens as bad as they were. It would have been nice to have been warned. Is there a way to get a refund?
Need some trees trimmed!
There are areas of the course that need some trees trimmed. For example, on the (Par 3) 10th hole, I hit a perfect shot heading straight for the green and the ball was clipped by branches that interfered with the trajectory of the shot. This should not happen when hitting a shot from the tee blocks.
I Am Admittedly Biased
Two key points to keep in mind. I know I am not that good of a golfer, average at best. And, I was not happy at the staff's inability to resolve a dispute about the charge;
We used a Golf Now Hot Deal. When we arrived we were charged the Hot Deal price. Our third player had paid prior to our arrival, but when I paid they charged me a second time for him. When we questioned the charge the staff insisted the third player was not charged, although he had been issued a cart. I had refused a receipt at check-in, a mistake on my part. This left a bad taste in my mouth. It will be a long time before I return. Probably not a good reason not to recommend to others. were simply not happy
