DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge
About
Perched in the hills above Santa Cruz, DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge features plenty of elevation changes as well as tight, tree-lined fairways making this short layout anything but a cinch. The result of the tight layout, however, often translates into long rounds as higher handicappers look for their golf balls in the woods. Designed by Bert Stamps, the golf course opened in 1970. Conditioning is average, but DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge's green fees are a small fraction of its more famous neighbors.

A fun challenge
Take your A game with you. It's a very fun, but challenging layout. Keep it on the short stuff and have a ball.
Over priced.....
The greens are well maintained but many tees are in very poor condition. The restaurant has limited hours. The weekday price with cart of $80 is waaaaay to high.
Bunkers
The inability to rake fairway bunkers and the unfortunate watering of it makes it like concrete.
These bunkers should be GUR.
Great coast side public course
Great coast side public course. Bring your fairways and greens game. Greens are in great shape. Its all about staying out of trouble here if want to score well here. They also added a real nice outdoor driving range side cafe anf picnic area.
Staff
staff was very friendly, weather great, haven't played here in about 4 years, still a great course if you like them doglegs
Nice Day
Got some good driving range advice, where to miss. Thoroughly enjoyed the round (except for the double). Nice people.
Not what I hoped for
Fairways were dry and rough, although, greens were well maintained. Driving range is a little shoddy, golf balls were old, dirty and muddy. I am not affluent nor am I poor, played a lot of courses for less $$$ that were better maintained. For some reason over the years I was compelled to play here, sadly when I did, disappointed.
Challenging for Recreational Player
Challenging yet Nice layout.. pace of play on the front is a issue could use a Marshall.. back is long and forgiving..
Pretty bad day all around
Greens were the only good thing about the day at De La
Fairways were hard and dry and the carts had to be in at 7:30 so a 4 pm tee time only get's you just past the turn. Wish I would have known because I would have walked but to drive all the way back to the cart barn and then walk back out only to have to wait again on every shot just did not make much sense. Pace was really bad - I know it was a Saturday but maybe starter can do a better job with spacing with a priority on golfing experience rather than just turn a buck and pack um all in there. It's cool, I forgot what a weekend was like on a Muni and that's on me. I'll play a Wed or weekday afternoon and hope for better The day was not the greatest and as any real golfer will tell you "Pace Kills" sadly, we were tracking for an almost 7 hour round! Finally, $$$ for 9 holes seems like a lot - Whoa! Haven't been here for a while and it'll take a lot to bring me back. Bad on you "De La"
Also, a heads up re: DeLaVeaga; hasn't been watered since last summer. Rain in January has given way to hand watering greens to survive. more than 5-1
Also, a heads up re: DeLaVeaga; hasn't been watered since last summer. Rain in January has given way to hand watering greens to survive. more than 5-10 dead trees on almost every hole. Fairways are so hard, you could drive the green on many par fours with a duck hook. I was hitting low and getting 250-280 off the tees. Problem is the wedge approach bounces on the green like a driveway. Links golf only.
