DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge
About
Perched in the hills above Santa Cruz, DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge features plenty of elevation changes as well as tight, tree-lined fairways making this short layout anything but a cinch. The result of the tight layout, however, often translates into long rounds as higher handicappers look for their golf balls in the woods. Designed by Bert Stamps, the golf course opened in 1970. Conditioning is average, but DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge's green fees are a small fraction of its more famous neighbors.

So sloooow
Started way behind time and it got worse. Foursome ahead were hitting two sometimes three times from tee. No marshall in sight. The greens impossible to read as two kinds of grass made the clumpy.
Used to be a good course.
Course conditions were fair at best. Layout is fun but very narrow
Wait to hit Every shot
It was a Friday afternoon and we were a 2 some in the middle of a sea of foursomes, and why they didn't pair us with another twosome is beyond me.
Still if we were a 4, we would still be waiting, as the backups had as many as 3 groups on one tee.
So if you are looking to squeeze in a quick round this is NOT the place. That being said, it is a fun layout, with tricky greens that roll nicely. The staff in the pro shop are friendly. Their restaurant is being remodeled so no lunch for us. I would love it if they would work on picking up the pace of play, hire a Marshall might help and making sure they don't overbook would be good too.
Overpriced
Quality and experience doesnt match the cost. Not super expensive, but not a great course either. There aren't many in the Santa Cruz area tho, so not a lot of options
Nice and well maintained track
De Laveaga is a tricky course. Nice looking course with lots of trees. Very tight but short. You really have to place your shots. Most par 4s and par 5s don't need a driver. Best to play conservative off the tee.
Course is well maintained. Greens are in good shape.
Facilities are not bad with a range, chipping, and putting green.
One of the things that is weird is the frisbee golf right on the course. Kinda slows things down but not horribly. I had a 5-some playing frisbee golf and a group trying to get a frisbee out of a tree. I think it was only a 4 hour round because it is such a shorter course.
Good test of your game
Narrow fairways, greens a little uneven. A good test of your game. It seemed like the pace was a little slow but I finished in about 4 hours, so it wasn't really a problem
Great course
Greens roll excellent with challenging fairway placement
Very poor conditions
First time played this year. The condition of the course is very poor, fairways are a cow pasture. The drought may have caused this poor condition but with all the rain, one would think the course would have been in much better condition. The pace of play was the worst, 3 hours to play the front nine, but the back nine improved to 2.5 hours. No marshal to help improve pace. I would not recommend this course.
Great deal.
Got a great deal on GolfNow. Took only 4+ hours to play. I hope they the upstairs open soon.
Value for the dollar
Dela is and always will be a challenging course. I resides on the top of the Sana Cruz foothills and offers breathtaking views of the area. Couple things to note: the sand traps need a lot of help and they lost a lot of trees all due to a glorious winter. Gophers are a problem due to Parks & Recreation will not let mgt. exterminate them. The tee boxes and greens are in great shape as long as the fungus is managed. Can't wait for the Clubhouse to get finished.
Rainy round
I was playing all by myself. Greens are very well maintained, Fairway could be challenging on a few holes. I will most definitely come back and play some more
Nice course
Nice course, hole #1 & #10 were awesome! Greens were in good shape. Overall a challenging course and a great golf day!
Great Old layout in extreme disaray
In looking for a place to play, I choose a course that I had not played in a while and wanted to revisit. In checking on GolfNow, there were no alerts for this course and I booked it. The course was in horrible shape. The fairways had been punched and the rough had not been cut in a long time. The greens were in reasonable shape, but bumpy. I had heard that this course picked up a questionable greenskeeper-- guess its not a question anymore
I play a lot of golf and this is one of my favorites
Nice day
Fun day. Spring conditions where the ball tends to hide in rough along the fairways and around the greens so you better make good shots or you'll be spending a lot of time looking for your ball.since the restraunt and bar are closed there's not much to say.
First Time at DeLaveaga
First Time playing this course and loved it, little challenging but if it was easy it would be boring. I was put with 3 very friendly members. thanks
Poor Management!!!!
I'm a small business owner and plays very weekend. We played a round yesterday for 4 1/2hours. We got a group and marshall yell at us for show play with cart path only!!! I wouldn't recommend anyone bother drive over the hill for poor management. Never come back again!!!
