DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge
About
Perched in the hills above Santa Cruz, DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge features plenty of elevation changes as well as tight, tree-lined fairways making this short layout anything but a cinch. The result of the tight layout, however, often translates into long rounds as higher handicappers look for their golf balls in the woods. Designed by Bert Stamps, the golf course opened in 1970. Conditioning is average, but DeLaveaga Golf Course & Lodge's green fees are a small fraction of its more famous neighbors.

Need to cut the grass.
On a Saturday morning I would expect that the greens and fairways would have been cut.
It appeared as if it had been a few days on the greens and a week on the fairways. Yes it was wet, but not bad enough to stop the carts, so mowers could have done their thing.
This course is so good when the conditions are up to standard.
Great time
Had a great time with my son andthe staff was great tim took time to talk to my son about high school golf and made sure he had what he needed
Enjoyable course to play
Some challenging holes, but overall a great place to spend with friends.
The course was in great shape
Fast greens, lush fairways, lots of trouble, good fun.
Little known special!
Great course with challenges on most holes. Never get tierd of playing there. Under going renovation to the restaurant and restrooms in main building, but does not affect the golf!
Very good muni
You must be accurate here or bring extra balls. Fairways in below average condition right now.
No driver needed just a ball that listens!
Course is fun with plenty to think about.fairways are narrow but playable, there are a few holes like #10 were some local knowledge will help.other than that a good course to tune up your short game✌️
Good course. Best part is its away from traffic and homes. Nestled in the Santa Cruz redwoods
Once restaurant is finished it should be back with complete food and bar. A little spendy in comparison to other courses. But challenging! Since its under the Santa Cruz city council they let parts of their course dey up on the fairway. I guess that's drought mgt..but kind of weird. I bet it drives golfers to other courses
Disc golf
If you want to be playing golf with disc golfers then this is the place to be. We had to wait for the disc golfers to play their shots on several occasions before hitting our shots. I was never notified that this was part of the course. What a terrible experience. I won't be back.
Good time as always when on a course
Had a great time and a lot of laughs with my buddies. All of the staff that we interacted with were great and the woman driving the course cart was excellent. Saw her a lot and was very friendly to deal with. Love the new driving range bar!
Beginners Tuesday
Slow play caused by beginners I was matched with. But still better than being at the office... Course is same muni conditions, road to this course still under repair due to landslides. Poison ivy everywhere so watch out! Restaurant under renovation. Range needs renovation.
Great Golf Course
This is an old style course, that can be demanding from the blue tees. My wife played from the red and had a great experience. She's about a 30 index. My sons are scratch from the blues, shot high seventies.
Greens are awesome. This is a bucket list course.
Great day
Perfect weather and great company!
DeLaveaga is a relative short course with tree line and course contour for defense. 5x par 3s and 3x par 5s for 70.
It has appearance of tight fairways with its tree lines; however, it is much more forgiving than its appearance. 250 yards seems to clear much of the trouble off the tee. Poa annua greens were on the slow side and rolled true enough.
I am starting to enjoy playing shorter courses. Especially, one of kind courses like DeLaveaga.
Perhaps, it was playing with my son. Or, the perfect 70 degree weather.
I would play DeLaveaga again.
bring plenty of snacks, it will be a long day
Teed off at 8:37 and played 5 holes in one hour, that was great, then the wheels came off, took four and a half hours more to play the last 13 holes. No one was making the three groups that were two plus at the turn and four holes when they finished behind the group in front of them or pick up their pace, very disappointing.
Nice
This was a very nice relatively difficult course. It offers a very good selection of tight pinpoint Fairways and grip-it-and-rip-it. The greens were not in keeping with the overall course presentation and the amenities were down because the clubhouse was being redone I think overall for the value even go higher than a five-star
