Chesapeake Golf Club
About
Chesapeake Golf Club sits tucked away in the idyllic village of Las Gaviotas, conveniently situated just 15 minutes from downtown Norfolk. Boasting some of the best greens in the Tidewater area, the club offers the amenities of a private club with the fees of a public golf course. The layout will challenge you with rolling fairways and tricky doglegs. Water hazards come into play frequently so be prepared for a few intimidating blind shots over water. Mature trees line the rolling fairways and there are also strategically placed bunkers lurking along the greensides. The manageable 6,278-yard length is approachable for beginners yet there are still holes that long hitters will enjoy. Chesapeake Golf Club is a course that will test your skills but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Nice friday afternoon
Had a great time at this course. The course was open to us and the pave of play was great. We finished the round in 3 hours. Greens were in excellent shape and very receptive.
You get what you pay for
Fun course that challenges you with water and narrow fairways but if you drive it straight you can shoot a low score as I've had my two best rounds of the year at this course. Some of the greens have obvious and huge spots. It's not s beautiful course at all but it does the trick. Pace of play has always been good for me but I don't go during prime times. Just drive the ball straight or else you will have a long day as it's easy to go OB into someone's back yard.
Rvacation trip golf
Was in Virginia to visit family and booked this course. Not a very long course at just over 6100 yards from the tips. Price with cart was $22 and you can't beat that. Course was in decent shape for October. Greens were above avg speed but beat up as I don't think most who played there recently know how to fix ball marks. With many tree lined holes, sand traps and water in play on quite a few holes it made this short course rather challenging. I would recommend playing here especially during prime season. Counter guy was friendly , carts need upgrading (slow) would pick up pace of play.
Chesapeake Golf Club
Fun course, would play again without a doubt. Great scenery
Very Nice Course for price
The front 9 has a few water hazards, so pay attention to the distances on the hole marker signs. I liked that the holes signs are well maintained and well marked. It rained the night before, so there were some spotty areas with slight ponding, did not affect our game too much. Overall the course was well maintained and the greens were great.
Holds up
This is my second time playing. The weather was ideal for the summer. Fairways have held up during the season as well as the greens. Unfortunately the greens were very soft from dew or over irrigation to save them. Great play for value. Penalized for not staying in the fairway. Out of bounds is tight. This course has the toughest par 5s in the area. Laying up is key for average length hitters.
Great golf
I had a great day at this course. My golf game was not as great as the day. This course is ideal for any golfer. The greens were great and the fairways were friendly.
First time
Course was way better than I expected. Greens were in great shape especially for this time of year. Would definitly play this course again in the future.
Great course
The course was in great shape and the cost throng the Golf now app was amazing. The staff was very friendly. I got out early morning and was playing a little faster than the groups in front. I had no problem playing through.
Course is in excellent shape.
The course is in excellent shape, from the fairways to the greens. My only complaint was that there were a group of 4 women and another group of 3 men in front of us that backed the course WAY up. At one time we had five groups waiting to get off on a tee box. I never saw a marshal the entire time we were out there. What should have been a 4 hour round turned into an almost 5 1/2 hour round. No one offered to let us play through. Other than the slow pokes in front of us, it was an enjoyable round. A marshal monitoring the pace of play would have been a big plus and could probably have eliminated the bottleneck on almost every hold.
First Timer
Very impressed for my first time golfing here. Good prices for what the course has and is pretty challenging, my buddies and i are coming back for sure.
fantastic
awesome and helpful staff in the proshop and grill. theres hole number signs everywhere so it is basically impossible to get lost! and the greens are perfect!
fantastic
i loved this course and all of the challenges. Very helpful staff and servers in the bar. well maintained course and greens were awesome.
A nice spot for an overnighter
I lucky enough to be paired with two Navy Pilots and they were enjoyable playing partners. It was almost as if we had the course to ourselves having only spotted a few other players the whole round. Conditions were good but it was cart path only after recent rains. Challenging but not a brutal layout.
Wet. Wet. Wet.
Course was soaked...needs new drainage. Almost unplayable over 70% of course.
In addition, no scorecard on the cart, no scorecard on the 1st/2nd tee, and none offered by the staff in the clubhouse. Thank goodness for apps and GPS.
Good for value. Hidden residential course.
This course is inviting and seems to be fairly generous. Although the fairways were wet due to rain they were fairly well maintained. Greens were surprisingly well cut, even and had a few undulations. This course gives you many chances to par or better because it has straight fairways in the majority. Beware of the need to lay up due to water however. This is a better riding course than walking as the holes are interspersed in a residential area. Unfortunately the cart paths are beat up.
Some narrow fairways, greens rolled true
Course was cart-path only. Heavy rains the night before. Still a 4 1/2 hour round. Greens held nicely and the greens rolled true. Nice day on a nice course. Some tricky water holes with layup required.
Challenging but fun
Course was great shape, I can't wait to go again! This is a great place to golf with a group or as a single, the bar is great for a beer after the game. The staff in the Pro shop and grill were very helpful and professional. the course has had a lot of work done to it to look this good. its a super fun and challenging course that i will be heading back to in the near future.
Very challenging for the money
Played the day after a week of rain. Course drained exceptionally well. Greens were soft yet rolled true. Would definitely play again. The staff even refunded a round that was prepaid, because a friend did not show up. It was crowded, but given the weather the previous few days, it was like that throughout the area...
Surprising
Went out for a quick round after work, much better than I remember it being. Greens were in great shape.

Michael,
I'm sorry about your rating and not wanting to play the course again. We have great drainage on the course, what we don't have is a dome for the golf course. In the past 3 weeks, we have had almost 15" of rain. And in the past 2 weeks it has rained 13 out of 14 days.
Regards to the score card; If there was not one on the cart, then that's my fault and we are sorry for not having them on there. We don't keep score cards on the first tee for the simple fact that regardless of what any golf course does to keep them dry, it doesn't work. So that's why we have them on the cart and in the pro-shop.
If you would of asked for a score card from any staff member they would of gotten you one right away.
Sincerely,
Charles Lynn
