Chesapeake Golf Club sits tucked away in the idyllic village of Las Gaviotas, conveniently situated just 15 minutes from downtown Norfolk. Boasting some of the best greens in the Tidewater area, the club offers the amenities of a private club with the fees of a public golf course. The layout will challenge you with rolling fairways and tricky doglegs. Water hazards come into play frequently so be prepared for a few intimidating blind shots over water. Mature trees line the rolling fairways and there are also strategically placed bunkers lurking along the greensides. The manageable 6,278-yard length is approachable for beginners yet there are still holes that long hitters will enjoy. Chesapeake Golf Club is a course that will test your skills but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Friendly, Wonderful Course
Everyone at the course was most accommodating there was a very friendly feel among the players as well as staff. Women were welcome and the men were courteous. I would definitely recommend this wonderful course. It is a little challenging without taking the fun out of it :)

This is a good short course, that is challenging because of the post stamp greens, I would recommend it to anyone and I'll be back
A great challenge for a great price.
I've played this course many times and find it challenging without being too overwhelming. The layout is well done and the conditions are always above par.
Love the layout
I've played Chesapeake Golf Course many times over the years, and keep coming back. It's a very unique layout that makes you give a lot of thought to your strategy for each hole. Don't plan on walking up to each tee box and automatically reaching for your driver. Driving accuracy takes a strong premium over distance. There are some narrow fairways, and challenging water locations. You will always need to be very conscious of where you want (and don't want) to take your next shot!
Course conditions can vary. Right now the fairways are in really good shape but some parts of the greens are struggling a bit. The course pace of play can also vary a lot, but this weekend I went out at 11am and played in just under four hours, but it can slow down a lot on some days.
The course is a great value for the money, and I will always play it at least several times each season. If you haven't played here yet, give it a try.
Average course
Greens were pretty bad, fairways needed cutting and t boxes needed work.
Choose a different course
This course did not live up to my expectations. The fairways were good but the tee boxes were hairy and uneven and the greens were horrible. There are a lot of courses in the area and I won't be going back to this one.

First off let me say how sorry I am about your experience at Chesapeake golf club.
I completely agree, we have 3 greens that are over heated due to this weather, we didn't want to cut the fairways nor the tee boxes to short because of it as well.
We will be punching the greens this Monday 8-29-16 to get a better air flow for the greens. We have always had the best greens in the area, I would love for you to come back out and try us again, on me.

Nice course for the value
Despite some very wet conditions in the days leading up to my round the course held up nicely. There were some to be expected soppy areas but the course was playable and fun. Some of the forced carries are silly but they are clearly marked and let the player make a decision. I think that after playing it a few times I'd like it better since I know where to miss and what to hit but I had a great time nonetheless.
Nice course
This course had some really nice holes. Fairways and greens needed to be cut but they had a lot of rain previous couple days. Groups ahead of us had no golf etiquette i.e. Did not fix ball marks, drove up to greens, practiced after missed putts.
Average course
If you are looking for a challenging and exciting course then this is not the one for you, but if you are just looking to go and hang out for a day then it's a good choice. The greens were in fantastic shape, the layout was a little confusing and the pro shop/grill was on the 12th hole instead of the 9th which was also a little confusing. It seemed a little on the expensive side for the experience...
Come on........It's challenging to find the club house and the 12th Tee. Doesn't that count for something!! :)

Worth the money
I haven't played here in about 2 years. Course is in great shape and the greens might be in the best shape I've seen them in.

This course is one of my favorite in the area. Got to keep the ball straight. Some areas narrow. Plenty of water and a fun course. Its always well maintained. The people there are always nice and it makes it a great course to play on. The price is right too.
Where's the club house??
Good course. We played on a wet soggy day so conditions weren't great but greens were still really smooth.
This course winds through a neighborhood and after around 3 holes is pretty much lost my bearings haha. After the ninth hole I was ready for a sandwich and a cocktail but oops, you don't get back to the clubhouse until after the 11th.
Overall I thought it was a really good course for the price.
