The Bayonet at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course

Course was a little ragged due to drought conditions and pace was slow due to a slow group ahead of us, but this is a lovely and challenging course. Well worth the cost, play with a local if you can, because it’s tricky.

Have played this for years. Fairways are very spotty. I won’t comment on it yet but having houses between all the fairways is going to taken away the beauty of this course.

Course is in very rough shape compared to previous outings - tees, fairways, greens were all pretty spotty / bad with bunkers being pretty hard packed. They were watering with sprinklers which put swaths of fairways out of play unless you wanted to get wet - often next to bunkers which made for difficult landings from some tees. Pace of play was fairly slow. Will not return for awhile.

Still a tough course specially the greens. All good other than some construction going on. Will come back.

Not easy to play, but we had a lot of fun. Not busy on a sunday morning, coming back, for sure

My initial impression upon visiting was very disappointing. Bayonet had been built up by reviewers even friends, so my expectations were high especially after playing Pebble Beach, Spyglass and Spanish Bay. I wasn’t expecting that quality, but I expected it to be close. The course was very brown and the practice putting and chipping greens were cracked and blighted. The actual greens on the course was very good, but the initial impression was hard to overcome. The fairways were dried and brown. You can tell it has the potential to be a beautiful course, but I was disappointed. I wish I had played Poppy Hills instead.
