The Bayonet at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course

About
It was upon this land that General Bob McClure constructed the Bayonet Golf Course in 1954 and, due to Bayonet's initial acclaim, Fort Ord decided to expand the course. In 1964 a second 18-hole championship course named Black Horse was officially opened.
The Bayonet and Black Horse courses are steeped in rich tradition and have played host to PGA Tour greats such as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson, as well as several U.S. Presidents and foreign dignitaries. After a practice round in 1997, PGA Tour Professional Billy Andrade said, "If they play the U.S. Open here, the scores would be over par. It's tough, but it's fun!" One thing is for certain, the Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Courses offer golf enthusiasts and history buffs alike, an experience that they are unlikely to forget.

Bayonet toughest course in Monterey
Great time with son , course never disappointed only thing is the weather make sure you dress warm

Had a great day playing Bayonet. Course was in great shape. Sad to see that they removed a lot of trees to make room for houses being built on the course.
It is great course but not maintained well. The mulch hasn’t been laid out for the lash 3 weeks.
Bayonet is a great course - but very badly maintained. There is mulch laying everywhere and hasn’t been laid out nicely like other course. Not worth paying 119 dollars for a round
Worthwhile course
One of my favorite courses for layout, conditions and weather. It's worth the drive of 2 hours.
Diseased fairways, construction mess
This course greatly disappoints as all the fairways were plagued with some diseased growth where greens patches of growth are splattered throughout all fairways. It was so bad that we had to implement bumping allowed while on the fairways. To make matters worse, there's housing construction right next to a few of the holes and if the wind is blowing, you get a film of wood dust blowing right in your face. It was so bad we had to wear our covid face mask while playing those holes. The layout is challenging due to bunkers strategically placed in almost all fairways right where most people would land their tee shots. All greens are at least double tiered so if you land on the wrong tier, a 2 putt is not a guaranteed. Would be a fun and challenging course when construction is done and all fairways repaired. But not now...

Staff very understanding, cart girl very pleasant and nice great sandwich every time.
Great course
This is a great course along with its sister black horse ! A real challenge!! But the views are wonderful and a grand time was had by all.
Great Layout
A course for a more experienced golfer, lots of fairway bunkers, need to hit a good strategically placed shot off the tee, mostly narrow fairways. Fast greens.
Potential -- but needs attention
I've heard about the Bayonet Course from friends for many years, and played it for the 1st time, on a gorgeous weather day. The layout was refreshingly difficult and varied; however, the condition of the fairways was very disappointing -- rock hard, with a mismatch of various grasses -- that changed the "reward" of landing there into an unnecessary challenge. Bunkers and greens were OK, but also need some work. I would consider playing the course again, but not until necessary work on the fairways and greens has been done.

Just a beautiful place to play and quite a challenge! If you want to test your game this is the place to do it!
Great Day in Monterey Bay
The course was welcoming, play was brisk, the greens were a bit difficult and unpredictable, fairways immaculate. I played there again any day of the week
