It was upon this land that General Bob McClure constructed the Bayonet Golf Course in 1954 and, due to Bayonet's initial acclaim, Fort Ord decided to expand the course. In 1964 a second 18-hole championship course named Black Horse was officially opened.

The Bayonet and Black Horse courses are steeped in rich tradition and have played host to PGA Tour greats such as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson, as well as several U.S. Presidents and foreign dignitaries. After a practice round in 1997, PGA Tour Professional Billy Andrade said, "If they play the U.S. Open here, the scores would be over par. It's tough, but it's fun!" One thing is for certain, the Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Courses offer golf enthusiasts and history buffs alike, an experience that they are unlikely to forget.

Great course, lots of bunkers.

Fun course, greens were challenging and bunkers are deep. The hamburgers at the restaurant were delicious.

2nd Visit

Glad to be back at Bayonet. Played from the Blue tees, since my playing partner used them. For me it was a bit of a stretch, since there is a 600 yd difference between the White. However, course was in generally good condition, greens were recovering from aeration done a few weeks ago. Look forward to getting back and playing the white's again.

Could be better

They laid down manure so the course smelled like crap all day. Fairways were horrible and the greens were aerated. Would be nice if they mention before booking. Also no cart person for drinks.

Monterey gem

This is definitely one of my favorite Monterey courses! I live in San Francisco and golf in Monterey 3-4 times a year (staying 3 - 5 days each time). This is one of my go-to courses. The staff is awesome and high on customer support. The real jewel, however, is the course itself. It is well laid out and well maintained. It is challenging enough, but not intimidating.

Fast Greens

Greens are very quick, good amount of slope on greens too. The layout of the course is great. Fairways are not the best as they are patchy but the ball does run out so I guess that’s a plus.

Battling Bayonet

Another gem on the Monterey Peninsula! I'm an 11 handicap and hadn't played for over 2 months and took on Bayonet on a cold overcast day. It is a challenging layout but great course -- when one is in better golf shape! As noted on the website it is considered one of the toughest tests on the Peninsula and I can attest to that. And, I loved it!

Bayonet is a great course.

This course is a good value for the area. The layout is excellent. There was a lot of work being done the day we played. Greens were nice and parts of some fairways were thin.
