The Bayonet at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course

About
It was upon this land that General Bob McClure constructed the Bayonet Golf Course in 1954 and, due to Bayonet's initial acclaim, Fort Ord decided to expand the course. In 1964 a second 18-hole championship course named Black Horse was officially opened.
The Bayonet and Black Horse courses are steeped in rich tradition and have played host to PGA Tour greats such as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson, as well as several U.S. Presidents and foreign dignitaries. After a practice round in 1997, PGA Tour Professional Billy Andrade said, "If they play the U.S. Open here, the scores would be over par. It's tough, but it's fun!" One thing is for certain, the Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Courses offer golf enthusiasts and history buffs alike, an experience that they are unlikely to forget.

Beautiful day, beautiful course
We had a great day today on Bayonet. Pace was great. Weather was perfect. We love playing these courses.
Bad conditions
Fairways were tight but also muddy, making it difficult to hit irons solid. Many areas lacking grass. Very hard to play it down. Some really bad lies out there. Many chip shots extremely tight with little grass. With the price they charge I expected the course to be in better condition. Bayonet has a great reputation but I'm not sure I'll return anytime soon.
Love this course
I’ve been learning golf for about 6 months now. I have heard a lot about Bayonet. This is my first time playing here. There were not a lot of people. The course was so nice. The tee box was so nice and the green was so fast and very difficult. This is a very challenging course. I play 5 different courses so far and Bayonet is one of my favorite. I love this course.
Best bang for your buck in the area
Such an under rated course. Well maintained, well regulated (pace of play was great), friendly staff, and a fun course for new golfers. The biggest point of emphasis is that this easily the best bang for your buck among courses in the area. Sure, it't not pebble, but if you are golfing on a budget or want to sneak in a round after blowing through your bank roll playing the pebble courses, this is a great opportunity to sneak in a fun round of golf for a very reasonable price.
10/10 would recommend.
What a great day!
Played it for my birthday. As good as it gets. Only way this course could be better is if it was right on the water! Staff is extremely friendly and teat you like royalty. Pyramids of balls at the driving range and you warm up and take on your round like a PRO!
