The Bayonet at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course
About
It was upon this land that General Bob McClure constructed the Bayonet Golf Course in 1954 and, due to Bayonet's initial acclaim, Fort Ord decided to expand the course. In 1964 a second 18-hole championship course named Black Horse was officially opened.
The Bayonet and Black Horse courses are steeped in rich tradition and have played host to PGA Tour greats such as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson, as well as several U.S. Presidents and foreign dignitaries. After a practice round in 1997, PGA Tour Professional Billy Andrade said, "If they play the U.S. Open here, the scores would be over par. It's tough, but it's fun!" One thing is for certain, the Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Courses offer golf enthusiasts and history buffs alike, an experience that they are unlikely to forget.

Great course. Greens were undulating and difficult. Beautiful view of the ocean during play and from the club house.
Pebble Beach Without the Salt Air
This is a gem of a course in the Monterrey Bay Area. Spectacular grounds, Coastal Oaks, Monterrey Pines...I'm hesitant to provide a super-positive review as I'd like to keep it on the DL and I'd hate for it to get too much attention But need to be honest.
Great Afternoon
Couldn't have asked for a better day and course to enjoy in Monterrey!
Heard from a friend this was a good track and totally agree
Excellent value on a Hot Deal
Great layout and value
One of the best values in Monterey peninsula area. Not nearly as foggy as Pebble or Poppy. Definitely must play when in the area.
The most challenging greens
The green were rolling about a 13! Undulating greens with false fronts. I chipped on to the green and didn’t make the ridge, the ball rolled back toward me and past me. Lol!
We played Bayonet the first day which is a little tighter because of the trees that lined the fairways.
On the second day we played Black Horse is more open but, I felt the greens were tougher.

A Great Test
Bayonet has some of the most challenging greens around. They putt true and are hardwood fast. The tee boxes and fairways are in great shape and the bunkers are well maintained. Bring your A game.
Bayonet Challenge
We had fun but the fairways were very thin and the greens were very difficult. I don't know if it was the pin positions or the greens are just very hard to read!
Hard but fun!
Great course. Bit dry this time of year as usual.
Greens were fast and enjoyable!
No one out there to keep a
slow lead group moving so it was a very slow pace, waiting a lot! No round should be longer than 4 hours, anywhere.
I like the course, challenging and lots of fun. Greens are treacherous and hope to master one day.
Beautiful day on the coast
Bayonet beautiful today.. A few sand traps were a bit hard pack, but otherwise in very good shape. Enjoyed the day and the course. Full driving range with chipping and sand trap area.
Good and not so good
First off Early morning round at Bayonet .
Played as single with cart —- so no hold ups .
First 5 or 6 holes had just been cut and had grass cuttings all over them so extremely slow and irregular .
Ground staff were blowing off grass cuttings without much success.
Very patchy fairways for a quality course . Hard , compact sand in traps .
No rough , but some terrible unkempt areas just off the fairways .
Obviously a great looking course and excellent layout .
Check in at desk , moderately civil —- that’s about all . Why do they all typically treat players like they are better than you and are doing you a favour ?!
Starter much more friendly . .
Not worth the $150 printed green fee , but good at $69 through Golf Now ...
Great course
Played early 7:30. Took right around 4 hrs. Good layout not as many hills as black horse - easier to walk and better to play.
Great course, fast greens, but woman friendly
We had a great time with beautiful weather. Loved the course
Big Time Golf Course
Bayonet is a big time golf course with some great holes from start to finish. You will get everything you want out of a round here at a great price.
There is a wide variety of holes and several elevation changes throughout the track. Hole 9 is the most difficult par 4 I have ever played, long dogleg right to an elevated green surrounded by bunkers. Good luck getting there in 2!
Bayonet lists their price at $145 per round, but we played twice by booking through GN. We got a prime morning time for $69 and an afternoon time for $45. Each included cart. Make sure you look for deals online before booking through the pro shop.
The golf course was in pretty good shape and had quick greens. Also there are no water hazards on the entire course. (It's tough enough without them) You will have plenty of ocean views throughout your round. We finished our final round right at sunset and the setting was spectacular.
You will not be disappointed with a challenging round at Bayonet. This is a wonderful golf facility!
