The Bayonet at Bayonet/Black Horse Golf Course

About
It was upon this land that General Bob McClure constructed the Bayonet Golf Course in 1954 and, due to Bayonet's initial acclaim, Fort Ord decided to expand the course. In 1964 a second 18-hole championship course named Black Horse was officially opened.
The Bayonet and Black Horse courses are steeped in rich tradition and have played host to PGA Tour greats such as Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson, as well as several U.S. Presidents and foreign dignitaries. After a practice round in 1997, PGA Tour Professional Billy Andrade said, "If they play the U.S. Open here, the scores would be over par. It's tough, but it's fun!" One thing is for certain, the Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Courses offer golf enthusiasts and history buffs alike, an experience that they are unlikely to forget.

Great course, great deal!
The Golf now deal was basically half price. Approximately $75 for a $150 round. With cart, free hot dog, chips and drink. When we arrived the pro said they aerated 2 weeks ago, so they gave us a certificate for a free round later this year. Course was beautiful, staff were all real friendly.
Fantastic experience
Bayonet is where you go when you think you've got game. Then,, you realize you better keep your day job. The course, the golf, the facility, the weather,...just the best experience you'd ever want. Absolutely love it...and you will too.
Bayonet golf
The course is a fantastic layout & very Challenging. I am a 7 h'cap & Blue tees were 6680 which I played as whites were 5600-5700?
The Black Horse was closed due to maintenance so Bayoner extremely busy. My wife & I had a 11 am tee time but got there early & pro shop & starter got us off at 9:50. Fantastic. We played a 4 with a father son teenage son & still got around in 3:45. Its a must to play in Carmel area.
Greens So Glassy You Can See Your Reflection
For me, this was the most challenging course I've played. Many false fronts, hidden swales, and hole positions that penalized imperfect positioning. This course hosted the 2018 PGA Championship, so this is a pro testing course that beats up mid handicap golfers. I loved the challenge.
Nice day to play
The sun was finally out and it was a great day for golf. Bayonet was is good condition considering all the rain. The greens were in great shape. Pace of play was a little slow as some of the locals were reluctant to let faster players play through. Overall a good value for a very good course.

Very nice course, greens were fast and the views was awesome.
Best deal going (though back 9 was SO backed up!)
On hole 11 we realized that everything was really backed up so we drove cart over to hole #6 on Blackhorse and played there (that course was wide open but fun/great shape). So, it all worked out.
Best Place
Lived and sailed and played all around the Monterey Bay, If there's a prettier spot to spend the day......show me.
Great Day & Great Course Condition
The day was awesome! Clear, cool and minimal wind! The course is in great condition for this time of year! We had a complimentary round that expired 12/31/18 so we couldn't picked a better day! Didn't shoot the best round that I've done here in the past but the course and weather was the best. Love ❤️ Bayonet / Black Horse.
